Just played our 7th concert in a row on the west coast tour, noon show at First Presbyterian in Pasadena. Warming up and keeping the momentum going. #livemusic #westcoasttour #newmusic by @foliasduo

We’re on tour! ‘Great Lakes’ West Coast tour kicked off with a beautiful send-off show at Speciation in Grand Rapids on Monday. We drove two days to Utah and play A-Frame Concerts in Provo tonight. Our new single ‘Locust Storm’ drops tomorrow, Carmen’s composition for flute and guitar.

A lot happening this week, and a lot more to come.

We’re camping our way down to the West Coast, 13 shows, one car, a tent, and a lot of campfire coffee. If you love what we do and want to help keep us out here, become a Camp Host. $50 covers a campsite and gets you a handwritten notecard from the road.

Our Halloween costumes this year. Ha! 🎃 This has been the most beautiful fall we can remember, and we’ve been soaking up every gold leaf in the yard. Over 20 years of making music together, nine albums, and a lot of miles, and we still feel lucky that this is our life.

One more show before we hibernate for the winter: Monday, Nov 16, 5:30 pm at Hackley Public Library in Muskegon. Come say hi!

Warming up for a concert today in Muskegon with a section of a Luis Milan Villancico. #livemusic #newmusic #puremichigan by @foliasduo

This piece, Silver Jack, came out of a composing residency in Colorado back in 2017. It’s influenced by electronic dance music and the pastoral countryside, which you can hear in the way the chords shift against a syncopated bass line underneath a flute rhythm sequence, three ideas running at once. Sunday porch practice, working it into shape with the metronome.

Catch us live this week, Tuesday in Muskegon and Thursday at GRCC Guitar Night!

Follow along with the score for Lake Superior, from our album Great Lakes. #FoliasDuo #GreatLakes #LakeSuperior #FluteAndGuitar #SheetMusic by @foliasduo

Redbud’s going gold in our yard, and some news that made our week. Great Lakes was reviewed in the Sept/Oct issue of Fanfare Magazine by Colin Clarke. He wrote about all eight pieces from the tambín on Lake Ontario to the solo guitar of Lake Michigan. Swipe for a few lines. Great Lakes is out now on CD and vinyl. Grab a copy on the Folias Duo website!

Lake Superior, from our album Great Lakes. Some places are too big for words, so we let the music do the talking.

Andrew is super proud of his newest composition, Lake Michigan, for solo guitar. This is the piece that started the whole Great Lakes series, and it’s close to him because Lake Michigan is where he grew up. It’s a lively piece that features a lot of guitar techniques, arpeggios, melodies, tremolo, and it moves through a range of moods, from joyous and bright to dark and sinister, just like a day on Lake Michigan.
