My name is Adrianna, a Polish-Canadian artist inspired by nature, folklore, and the vibrant colors of traditional Łowicz art 🇵🇱🍁

Through my paintings, I reimagine Québec’s wildlife and flora with a contemporary Slavic folk touch. I also love sharing the Canadian artists and musicians who inspire my creative world ✨🎨🎶

🇬🇧 English

For this painting, I chose New England asters as my floral subject. This time, I reduced the amount of decorative patterns to give more space to the Łowicz-inspired ornaments, which I also made slightly larger.

The goal was to create a lighter composition and bring more attention to the flowers at the center of the painting, while keeping the colorful and graphic touch that defines my style.

Today we used the painting “Under the Sky of Stars” by Folk Boreal, as our learning inspiration.

Mindfully harvesting and arranging wild flowers
is one of my all time favourite
activities to do with children. Not only does it bring back happy memories of creating bouquets which would always be given the place of honour on my Nan’s kitchen table, it’s also an activity that is filled with learning and skill.

First, the friends carefully held scissors to snip a few stems of asters. M noticed asters a few days ago, and has been amazed at their simple beauty ever since. The beauty of these flowers is captured perfectly by this painting. We stop to watch them sway in the breeze, guess when they will open (they are usually closed early in the morning) and delight in the pollinator visitors they attract. It’s important that if we choose to harvest wild things, we do so respectfully and only after we ask the plants themselves. We can do so by noticing if there is an abundance of the flora we want to collect. There should be plenty left for the bees, bunnies, birds, and others.

Once we harvested just enough, we got to work, trimming, pouring water, and situating the stalks in beautiful ways.
This task captivated each child’s interests. Each child worked at their own skill level, pouring, snipping and moving. The results were stunning and complement this beautiful piece folk art beautifully. It is so important that we connect to art and to nature each day. #art #canadian #canadianart #artlesson #homeschool by @folkboreal
