Oh River ...who will I be when I reach the sea? 🌊 🏔️🌞Finding our way back home after another most incredible time at #FolkUnboundTheGathering full of shared beauty and wisdom.Thanks to EVERYONE who made the 2026 cohort so special and memorable. The joy is difficult to capture in words but our amazing photographer Sophie @brightwingphotography (who turned into a videographer just for the week to get us out of a hole!) has done a stellar job on the visuals so we can share with you a capsule of what this week means to us and everyone who turned up to play.Our community has grown once again and we're so grateful! One week has already gone by since we wrapped up our beautiful nest building folk music camp in the Derbyshire Peak District 🥲🌈 The first sneak peek pics have been released by Sophie @brightwingphotography and we're smiling all over again at the memories! Play time starts one week today! 😁 This week we're busy printing, packing and panicking about the weather (just a little) making sure everything in our control is ready for #FolkUnboundTheGathering 2.0.We can't wait to welcome back some FUG originals and a whole bunch of newcomers to this year's event! In the eve we had some amazing creatives reach out but our budget can't quite stretch to it this year, so we've decided to go down the DIY route. *EDIT: thanks everyone for your amazing efforts. Trying to help us find a replacement videographer a short notice. What amazing community we have here! We've decided to go the DIY route so "the position has been filled" so to speak!*VIDEOGRAPHER CALL OUT! Owing to unforeseen circumstances, the videographer we had booked to film for us at this year's #FolkUnboundTheGathering has just pulled out on us. We would like a professional short video making to capture the essence of what Folk Unbound: The Gathering is all about as part of an exciting funding application we are putting together to secure the future and wider reach of Folk Unbound.If you are, or if you know, a pro videographer, please tag them below! The ideal candidate would need to be free for the day and part of the evening of Thursday 9th July. Trans/NB/ciswoman camera operator preferred. You would need to be able to get to Castleton Rotary Centre, S33 8WB, by yourself, either by car or by train/bus. You will be fed lunch and dinner and be paid for your time (filming and editing - exact requirements to be discussed). Introducing ✨ Sax ✨Sax grew up in a very musical family and has basically been singing forever, but properly fell in love with folk music through ceilidhs and campfire singing at Woodcraft Folk camps while at university. Somewhere between the late night choruses, muddy fields and slightly wonky harmonies, they got completely hooked on the magic of singing together.A singer, whistle and recorder player, they now run a community folk choir and are especially passionate about helping people, who don’t think they can sing, discover the joy of harmony singing in a room full of pals. Teaching complex choral pieces, leading pub songs, or gently encouraging someone into their first harmony line are all in a day's work; they love creating spaces where everyone can feel part of the sound.At Folk Unbound, they’re in charge of the catering, keeping everyone fed and caffeinated, though you’ll probably also find them running some optional evening choir workshops after last year’s joyful foray into Georgian polyphony singing! Introducing ✨ Frankie Insley ✨ @frankie.insleyFrankie is an absolute force for community folk music and dance! After discovering folk through Morris dancing as a teenager, she has become a passionate advocate of the joy of folk! She is the founder of DIY Ceilidh, a chaotic, joyful and hugely popular monthly ceilidh series that is volunteer-run and queer friendly. Frankie is a multi instrumentalist and among other things has a deep love for the one row melodeon and fiddle! When she’s not calling ceilidhs she is also heavily involved with Newcastle’s punk scene, performing in her band Bitchfinder General. She also performs with the Newcastle drone folk collective Powtes.Frankie is a warm, welcoming and generous teacher who is passionate about helping others find their own joy and expression through music. Folk Unbound wouldn't be the same without her and we're just over the moon to have her on our team! We still have a few places remaining on #FolkUnboundTheGathering 2026. Introducing the FolkUnbound co-founders: Lucy Huzzard & Mel Biggs .Folk Unbound is the brain-baby of Lucy Huzzard and Mel Biggs, both box players and long time folkies on the English trad scene. Whilst working together on Mel’s Chatterbox podcast & guest tutor series on Patreon, they shared stories about their own battles with confidence and the patriarchy on the folk scene. After a mad phone call between the two of them, Lucy shared a humble idea to run a confidence-boosting weekend instrument course, and Mel took that idea, ran with it, and offered up the suggestion of a longer, immersive week-long summer camp: Folk Unbound was born!We are here to take positive action to nurture those who might not always feel welcome or confident in some of the usual sessions/festivals and folk spaces. We still have a few places remaining, and some lower price tier tickets available for our folk music summer camp 6-10th July in the beautiful Castleton, right in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District. This course is open to musicians who identify as transgender, non-binary, gender fluid, or a cis-woman, or any other marginalised gender.
