*FOLLY OF THE WEEK*
“I placed an online order for wipes at Target and walked to go pick them up with my 1-year-old in tow. When we got there, an employee brought out this gigantic box and I was like, ‘Oh no! I don’t know how I’m going to carry this home.” (I realized I had accidentally bought them in bulk.) She said, ‘Ma’am, there’s another box this same size inside, I just couldn’t carry them both at once.’ So we unpacked them all and I stuffed them in my daughter’s stroller and basically anywhere there was space. We had to stop a few times on the way home, but I’m good for the rest of the year.” —Rachel M. by @followfolly

We started Folly because of the “ugly” and unspoken unknowns we encountered while planning for and creating our families. There were so many things we didn’t know to ask about, prepare for, or even realize were part of the process until we were living them. And it wasn’t until we started talking to other people who had already experienced it that we realized we weren’t alone. That’s why we were so excited to hear about @hellomothr_ , a platform with the goal of making sure new mothers never have to feel that way again. “I’ve lived most of my life without my mother, who passed away in 1995 when I was just 6 years old. For the longest time, I believed that being so young spared me from the intense grief of parental loss. I even viewed it as a gift of sorts, telling myself, ‘I was so little, I didn’t know what was going on,’ or ‘At least I was not a more formative age.’ Of course, that isn’t true,” writes @rachelizpark in our latest send. When I got the results of my ovarian reserve levels—this time at age 38—my numbers had dropped significantly,” writes @juliettedallasfeeney. “I did the math on how many cycles I would need for a decent shot at one live birth. I felt defeated. Do I need to leave my freelance consulting career and get a full-time job with fertility benefits? Should I become an egg-freezing influencer? Sell feet pics to afford the chance to have a baby?“ Read more about her journey to choose herself at the link in bio. by @followfolly

A little Folly update ⬇️

Starting this week, Folly will be moving from a weekly newsletter to a bi-weekly one.
As many of you know, our co-founder, @jessmayhugh, is navigating an incredibly challenging time while awaiting a heart transplant for her sweet son, Cole.
We want to give Jess and her family the space, time, and flexibility they need to focus on what matters most right now, while continuing to build and share Folly. And to use this space for what it was always meant to be: a place to be loud about the uncomfortable, complicated, and often unspoken parts of parenthood that can make us feel so alone.
Folly was created to make space for the real stuff when it comes to being a parent—and right now, this is the real stuff.
So, for the time being, you’ll hear from us every other week instead of every week. Same Folly, just a little more breathing room.
Thank you for being here, for reading, for sharing our stories, and for giving us a place to talk about the beautiful, messy, complicated reality of parenthood in all of its forms.
And most importantly, please keep Jess, Cole, and their family in your thoughts as they navigate this next chapter.

We’ll see you every other week. 💗 by @followfolly

*FOLLY OF THE WEEK*
“We took our daughter out to an early breakfast on vacation and each ordered for her separately. We looked down as she was eating a massive fudge brownie covered in mini M&Ms and a huge pancake dusted with powdered sugar and extra thick maple syrup. Whoops!” —Folly reader Katie B. by @followfolly
