It's CSA Week! ✨

In honor of CSA week and the amazing farmers in our area, we've put together a new resource on our website to help you locate and choose a farm to buy a share from this year! We rounded up 20+ farms in and around Orange, Durham, and Chatham counties offering shares this year, and we hope you'll find a good match. Swipe to the end for a demo!

🔗 Access our CSA directory via the link in our bio (or at foodequitycollaborative.org/find-a-csa) to find the right share for you!

⁉️ What's a CSA? CSA stands for “community supported agriculture” and is a farm production and marketing model where community members pay up front for a share in the upcoming harvest - essentially a farm subscription!

➡️ Buying in at the start of the season helps the farmer purchase inputs and guarantees them income. You’re also shortening the food supply chain. The farmer receives 100% of your purchase, unlike at the grocery store or market. And, you’ll know exactly where your food came from!

💪 Joining a CSA is an investment in a local farm, your health, and our food system!

If you are a farmer or local food producer offering a CSA this year and would like to be added, please contact us via a direct message or by email: tori@foodequitycollaborative.org On the left side of the screen, text in bold white font reads, "Find a CSA!" on top of an image of a cardboard box full of strawberries, potatoes, squash, zucchini, onion, and cabbage. On the right side of the screen, text reads, "We created a directory to help you find the perfect CSA! What is a CSA? CSA stands for “community supported agriculture” and is a farm production and marketing model where community members pay up front for a share in the upcoming harvest, essentially a farm subscription!" The bottom of the page says, "Click the link in our bio, or go to foodequitycollaborative.org/find-a-csa" and an arrow icon in the bottom right indicates to swipe to learn more. by @foodequitycollaborative

👩‍🍳 Kitchen Compass Session 2 was a blast!

Last week, we were back at @hopecenteratpullen to cook veggie and rice bowls with @burkettfarm for the second session of Kitchen Compass, a 6-month cooking and food literacy program supporting young adults as they transition out of foster care. We had great conversations about nutrition facts labels, money saving tips at the grocery store, meal planning, cooking terms, and more.

Everyone went home with more kitchen tools, including high-quality pans, sheet pans, garlic presses, colanders, and veggie peelers. Over the next four weeks, more @good_bowls will be delivered to their homes so they have easy, healthy meals on hand.

We're counting down the days until the next session in July and look forward to more engaging chats about food as we get hands-on to make another delicious dish together 😊

🔗 We invite you to visit the link in our bio to make a gift that directly supports these young adults as they gain practical cooking skills, food knowledge, and confidence in the kitchen. We couldn't do this without you! 💕 Three Kitchen Compass clients and Kait from Burkett Farm leaning over a table with cutting boards to look at recipes together. by @foodequitycollaborative

🌞 Meet our summer students!

Three UNC students have joined our team for the summer! Julianne and Lauren, Master of Public Health students in the Nutrition, Food Systems, and Health concentration, are researching opportunities for nutrition education in early childcare settings.

🍓 Julianne is looking forward to meeting her local community early childhood education centers exactly where they are to help build unique nutrition programming while simultaneously advancing her qualitative interview skills to best capture the 'whole picture.'

📕 Lauren is looking forward to enhancing her research skills outside of a strictly academic setting and to developing nutrition curriculum materials.

🍅 Kaylin, an undergraduate student double majoring in Food, Culture, and Sustainability & Community and Global Public Health at UNC, is developing community resources for our website, including a recipe collection, new maps, and mini food guides. Kaylin is excited to combine her interests in health equity, food security, and community-focused programs through her work this summer.

We absolutely love the knowledge and passion students bring and can't wait to see their hard work come together over the next few months! Meet our summer students, Julianne and Lauren, MPH Practicum students in the Nutrition, Food Systems, and Health concentration, and Kaylin, an undergraduate student intern double majoring in food, culture, and sustainability and community and global public health. Kitchen Compass has started! 🥬🔪

A few weeks ago, we held the first session of Kitchen Compass, a 6-month cooking and food literacy program supporting young adults as they gain confidence in the kitchen during their transition out of foster care.

Kait from @burkettfarm led clients in making Rotisserie Chicken Caesar Salad, and we turned it into wraps at the end! Along the way, we talked about food safety, fresh vegetables, food storage, other ways to use rotisserie chicken, making croutons in the microwave, and what clients hope to learn throughout the program.

Each client also selected new kitchen tools to take home, including digital cooking thermometers, cutting boards, knife sets, mixing bowls, kid-friendly recipe cards (@littlebitesbigminds), and starter spice kits. In addition, everyone is receiving a month of @good_bowls so they have easy, healthy meals on hand.

We're excited to continue this journey together and can't wait for our next session in just a few days!

🍴 Earlier this week, we joined @burkettfarm at @hopecenteratpullen for a cooking demo!

Kait led Hope Center clients and staff through basic knife skills, raw veggie taste testing, and two recipes: broccoli mac and cheese, and microwavable apple crumble. We even had some little friends help out 😊

➡️ Swipe to the end for the easy broccoli mac and cheese recipe! 🥦

Together, we kept good food on the table in 2025 💚

You stepped up to help feed our neighbors, and we stocked 7 food pantries with 3,995 healthy, ready-to-heat meals.

We are so grateful for all you allowed us to accomplish over the past few months, and we can't wait to continue building a more resilient food system together in 2026.

We have exciting plans for this new year we'll be sharing more about soon! 👀

Want to join us? Give a gift now to help us nourish today and strengthen tomorrow at the link in our bio. 🔗 Main text reads, "We came together for good food and this is what you helped us accomplish."
