It's a good time to give our episode of Dignity and Joy with Judy Da Silva from @grassy.narrows.solidarity a listen...

💧🌲✨

Land and water defender and health activist Judy Da Silva joins host Sheldomar Elliott to discuss the wins she has seen her community achieve in protecting their home of Asubpeeschoseewagong First Nation territory (also known as Grassy Narrows First Nation) and the many threats they continue to face.

Judy joined the conversation from a small wooden cabin on the frontlines of the Highway 671 blockade, the longest in Ontario’s history. She describes how preventing 20 years worth of industrial encroachment has restored some of the local ecosystem, offering a more peaceful place for people and animals alike.

Food CANNOT be used as a weapon of war.

FoodShare joins our colleagues in the growing Food Security Organizations Coalition in condemning the catastrophic situation ongoing in Gaza, in which food is illegally being denied to civilian populations.

Under no circumstance can it be justified to use food as a weapon of war.

We invite you to read the full statement by the Food Security Organizations Coalition regarding the siege of Gaza and to endorse the letter, as an individual or an organization, at: bit.ly/stopstarvinggaza-sign (link in bio)

The right to food is a fundamental and universal human right, and we must continue advocating to protect it.

With thanks to the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food) who released a statement upon which the statement is based, updated from the original released on October 24, 2023. by @foodshareto

All Out For Grassy Narrows -

September 23rd - 12pm - Grange Park, Toronto

RSVP Link in Bio

On September 23 at Grassy Narrows youth, leaders and community members will travel 1,700 km to Toronto for River Run 2026.

They are asking thousands of us to show up and march with them to demand justice.

The devastating mercury crisis in Grassy Narrows First Nation has persisted for decades, ever since 9 tonnes of mercury was dumped upstream in the 1960s, with little action from governments to help the people.

March with Grassy Narrows and show then they are not alone in their fight for mercury Justice!

We had a blast at the @jackjohnson concert Village Green! Teaming up with All At Once (@allatonce_org) as a Non-Profit Partner for Jack's 2026 Summer Tour was a chance to meet so many great folks including Jack and Kim whose Ohana Foundation supports organizations focussed on sustainable food, clean water and renewable energy.

We had over 150 people join us in signing @malvernurbanfarm's petition to the City of Toronto calling for the expansion of food growing in hydro corridors. Add your name at foodshare.net/malvern

Plus 20 local area folks also signed up to be part of our food justice contingent for the Grassy Narrows River Run this September. It's a great start, but we hope many more will join us. Visit foodshare.net/grassy to sign up to join us in solidarity with folks from Grassy in pursuit of justice for their people, land and water on Sept 23.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat and learn more about FoodShare's work along with great initiatives from our friends at @swimdrinkfish, @toenviro and @ontarionature

We've long looked southward and admired the community-driven responses to food insecurity happening in the home of Motown, so it was a pleasure to host a deeply knowledgeable group of food sector folks from Detroit this summer, including @keepgrowingdetroit, @sanctuary.farms, @nurturingourseedsdetroit, @oakland_ave_urban_farm and @cityofdetroit.

The visit was a great opportunity for our team to plug into some of the innovative work happening in Detroit in urban agriculture and beyond 🔌

Huge thanks to @from_lagos for coordinating the trip and including FoodShare on the group's whirlwind week in Toronto.

Come back soon and see us soon Detroiters 💚 by @foodshareto
