Paradise Dynasty 🥟 - The dumpling alternative to Din Tai Dung in socal! The wait time wasn’t that bad, so for walk-in it’s a good choice. With the Xiao Long Bao, it was pretty decent. I absolutely loved the spicy wontons, surprisingly the vegetarian ones even more than the chicken ones. Overall, the quality was relatively similar to Din Tai Fung, but the one edge I would give to Paradise Dynasty was the string beans. Those were phenomenal and the vegetables overall were really good. On the otherhand, for dessert, Din Tai Fung’s chocolate Xiao Long Bao was definitely superior. Both have their strengths. Eating at Din Tai Fung gives a more fine dining feel. Paradise Dynasty overall is a solid alternative that I would recommend everyone to try when with friends and family!

Din Tai Fung 🥟 - A great ambience and you really feel with the experience that it is like fine dining. You can see why it has crazy wait times. That being said, for the actual food itself, I found it to he a bit underwhelming. Disclaimer, I only went with one other person so I wasn’t able to try many variety of dishes. I can only comment for what I tried. For the classic Xiao Long Bao (chicken), it was pretty decent, but did not feel extraordinary to me. I preferred the soup dumplings to the regular chicken dumplings, which I really found mediocre. The most disappointing of the night was the string beans dish, I usually love string beans at chinese restaurants but this was absolutely awful to me, I did not like it whatsoever. The one saving grace was the dessert, the chocolate Xiao Long Bao was spectacular. That being said, I felt given the price and the wait time to find a seat, Din Tai Fung felt not worth it to me and I struggle to see myself going back in the future.

Siam Station is an overall solid choice for those looking for good Thai food in Irvine. Have been here a couple of times, can either order the food as single plates or have them family style (today we had it family style). The Chicken Satay was a great starter, would recommend it for sure. We had Pad See Ew w/ tofu for one plate (good vegetarian option), w/ chicken for the other, Siam Station Fried Rice, and Yellow curry chicken w/ Rice medium spice level. All these dishes had a great flavor, was fresh, and wasn’t overbearing in terms of spice so this is a great choice of dishes if you want taste without it being too strong spice wise. The Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) was the last dish, we also ordered it medium spice and I found it just okay, to be honest not sure the spice level was to my preference, not sure whether “hot” would be too spicy/overbearing though. Overall the standard dishes are really good, cannot vouch for the spicier options. In terms of seating, during the day there is outdoor seating which is pretty nice, but the indoor seating is pretty small so better for smaller parties. Service was decent and solid.

Bay Area Series 🌉- Satkar in Sunnyvale was some of the best Indian food I have had in years. It could have been the timing and maybe I was super hungry, but nonetheless I found it way better than any Indian food I have had in Orange County and most of southern California. The place is small so best for small parties. The portion sizes were good and the prices were reasonable Bay Area standard wise. I personally love eating garlic naan and curry, that’s my favorite but the Tandoor Chicken and samosas were both good too. Shout out to @sns7ag for showing our friends this spot, 10/10 would definitely come again.

Bay Area Series 🌉- Farmhouse Kitchen Thai in SF was an interesting experience. Before I start this review, I will give the disclaimer that I was not feeling 100%, which definitely affects my experience. In terms of aesthetic and atmosphere, it was trendy while maintaining a level of class. There was lot of floral decor as well as ornate gold and colors. The dish serving had aesthetic as well… not pictured, my friend’s curry dish came with blue rice. The food was presented well, and they had cute plates for sides. Environment wise was very nice. In terms of actual food, I ate the Pad Kee Mao. As I mentioned, I wasn’t feeling great so was difficult eating a hot and spicy dish, so I couldn’t enjoy fully. I could tell it was good, but probably not the best I have ever had. I wonder how it would taste if I came back though. I still would recommend to those in the SF area for those who enjoy Thai cuisine with a nice environment, it was a good experience.

This post is SUPER overdue, but was busy with planning my sister’s 10th birthday party 🥳. This is 📍Silverlake Ramen, and they have multiple branches, including in my hometown, Irvine where they have a location in Irvine Spectrum. I had been a couple times, but the night was a very special one 😊, and the food was absolutely amazing. Would definitely recommend their Shoyu Chicken Ramen and for appetizers, the broccolini 🥦 was so bomb, it’s a must try!

Three cakes 🎂 for one birthday lol! At least they are all chocolate 😋 and they are all extremely delicious with the homemade cake topping the list ;). First birthday I’ve had as a full-time worker now so it was a slow start to the day, but was eventually pretty fun thanks to all of my friends who celebrated with me. Unfortunately the busy schedule made it hard to celebrate with my family but hoping to spend more time with them the rest of the week and weekend! Wanted to give special shout outs to Amber @asun3527 and Cathy @lucritys for these cakes and just the overall effort into making my day special. Thank you also to my family for always being there to support me through everything unconditionally. 22 is going to be a great year for me, manifesting that! Look out for many more foodwithnum posts this next year 😎

Cathy Cake - 4.5/5 delicious, amazing, thank you bestie for knowing I love chocolate and getting ganache, -.25 for not homemade -.25 for Varun @varun.tankha being oblivious and messing up the team effort, this score is really Varun’s fault so you can blame him

Family Cake - 4.75/5 honestly similar taste levels to Cathy Cake but brought with love and effort from family so have to bump up because no Varun mess up involved here.

New York Series Pt 2 of 2 🏙 - Top Thai 55 Carmine in Manhattan was amazing. Probably one of the better Thai restaurants I’ve tried. The starter of fried calamari was decent, pretty good with the sauce. I usually rate a Thai place by its Pad See Ew and it did not disappoint. Their Thai tea was also great, would highly recommend. All in all,place was really great and anyone visiting New York should try it! Shout out to @erinhaque for recommending and @knee_hall_ for taking me :)

New York Series Pt 1 of 2 🏙- Haat Bazaar in Jackson Heights, New York. If you are looking for a Bangladeshi restaurant to try when visiting NYC, would highly recommend this place especially if you love biriyani. I got an entire plate of chicken biriyani on its own and fully finished it so you know it will be good, I didn’t even need anything on the side. Had a great time in the area, met up with my cousin @knee_hall_ and family and we tried street food afterwards as well. The fuchka was pretty tasty, great as a snack in between meals :) Also visited Haat Bazaar another day before flying out and the samosas (not pictured) were okay… not anything crazy, would definitely recommend the place for its biriyani.

Tomikawa is a local sushi restaurant that I’ve heard a lot about so had to try it! Started with the Garlic Edamames and this is a must try, absolutely delicious starter. Then came the sushi 🍣 , with salmon, jalapeño yellowtail, spicy albacore, some squid and eel. They were all pretty good though I admit the squid 🦑 and eel not food I’m usually used to. The salmon egg came next and it was so salty. Lastly, I ordered some Alaskan rolls, much to Cathy’s chagrin, and admittedly they were kinda mid LOL. Overall, the experience was good though and I would recommend 🥰

Cha Cha’s Latin Kitchen had great menu options and some pretty decent tasting food. I personally got the Chicken Flautas which was really tasty, but I had a tough time choosing bc everything looked amazing! Good location for a company lunch, I had an amazing time seeing all my favorite coworkers and spending some quality time with them :) Hopefully it won’t be too long before I see them all again 🥺

I’ve been looking for more good Thai options because usually they can be hit or miss, especially the places in Irvine aren’t that great. Siamese Express seemed like a good find in the area where I was meeting up with my friend, and the food was honestly pretty good! Would recommend if in the Aliso Viejo area, not too pricey and has good service with some decent Thai food.

*Note that I usually prefer spicy options, the options I got were less on the spicy side this time, so I suspect my taste would have liked the place even more if I had gotten the Spicy Pad Kee Mow for example.
