We wanted to share this financial breakdown because, for us, drag is community first. The Fools aren’t a profit-driven collective: we do this because we love it, not because it lines anyone’s pockets.

And we think transparency matters in the scene: audiences should know what they’re paying for, performers should know what they’re walking into, and everyone deserves a clearer picture of how shows like ours run behind the curtain.

We want our events to be a space where people get to show up, celebrate their hyperfixations, and be their queerest selves, whether you’re onstage or in the crowd.

We’re not perfect: we’re always learning, unlearning, and tweaking how we run things, but hopefully this gives a little indication as to how we do that.

We’re also always open to questions, feedback, and suggestions xxx just slide in our DMs

PS: This breakdown is specific to Nerd Balls. If we run other kinds of shows or co-produce with other collectives or orgs, things may look a bit different (sometimes we have a set budget, for example) but the ethos always stays the same xoxo

TRANSCRIPT:
Every show runs on a door split + equal share of tips. We usually book 5 external performers, plus any Fools who want to hop in (there are 6 of us). Fools never take an individual cut of the door split.
If a show does really well, we take one collective share (not per person) to support travel contributions and upfront merch production costs.
Performer fees have ranged from £40–£100.
We offer up to £25 travel contribution for performers traveling from outside Brighton. We boost this when needed so performers of colour/Global Majority artists can travel in from farther away.
Venue cost: £80 per show.
The Fools volunteer to do the other jobs to run the show: door, photography, stage managing, hosting.
We make merch not for profit but because we are 6 creative gremlins with too many ideas. It’s a way to express and give back <3

Merch profits are split:
* 50% → repaying production costs
* 50% → a gender-affirming care fundraiser
* So far, we’ve donated £163.36.

We aim to keep tickets low so drag stays accessible - community shouldn’t be gated by cost. by @foolsproductions

Join us and some incredibly passionate performers, to witness and interview some of history’s most infamous vampires: Carmilla, Daniel Molloy, and the most infamous goff of all time, Ebony D’arkness Dementia Raven Way (AN: If u dont know who she is get da hell out of here!), through the ethereal mediums of burlesque, live song, and ridiculous drag.

Dress in your finest vampiric cosplay, or come as you are.

It will happen! In our lifetime!

Every year around Pride I start thinking a LOT about what that word actually means and what makes me proud to be queer and gay and trans and all of these things. Thought this time I’d share with more people than just the @daltonsbrighton audience

back again, putting the D in D&D. I love being a gayboy and taking my clothes off.

Pride was a JOY. Thank you so much to @bndmevents & @latosxx for the endless support for us, and for booking us for our second daltons pride! What a delight.

As we fall into autumn, we are once again calling on performers of all disciplines: drag, spoken word, song- to apply to be a part of Nerd Ball!

As we enter our third year, our first show of the season (8th September) celebrates CARTOONS: a medium that spans many genres, from beloved kids shows, to irreverent adult comedies, to (affectionate) fandom nightmares.
