I finished the NYC Marathon (my first full marathon), and it was truly an unforgettable experience and so much fun! New Yorkers really show up for their runners. All five boroughs were great but Brooklyn and Queens were packed with people, all cheering and so incredibly supportive. I’ve received so many messages since the race, and I’ve read every single one. The outpouring of encouragement has been amazing—I’m beyond grateful. You all helped us raise $7600 for cancer research! 🫶🏼♥️

People have been asking how I’m feeling, and let’s just say, I’ve felt like I’ve been hit by a truck the last couple of days😜!
I rolled my ankle in a pothole around mile 24, took a tumble, and ended up with a few extra scrapes and bruises to go with the usual sore muscles.
You’ve also asked what I ate after the race 😂 I had a double cheeseburger and fries and an orange soda from Shake Shack—delish!

The bridges were as tough as everyone says, especially the Queensborough Bridge. But hearing the roar of the Manhattan crowd as we crossed was incredible. Would I do it again? Right after the race, I thought, “No thanks, one and done.” But… here we are, three days later, and I’m thinking…probably yes! 🤪😂

🌟Thank you RJ @this_endurance_life for coaching me and preparing me for this incredible milestone!🌟

When I crossed the finish line at the NYC Marathon in November, I truly thought it was a “one and done” kind of moment. But…that didn’t last long.

I’m honored to share that I’ve been invited to run another marathon with Fred’s Team, this time in Berlin, Germany, to raise money for groundbreaking cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering, the leading cancer research hospital in the U.S.

Cancer has touched all of our lives in one way or another. Whether it’s your story or someone you love, I’ll be carrying those names with me every step of the way on September 21st—just 56 days from now.

If you’ve been personally affected or want to honor someone in your circle, I would be humbled to run for them. Every single dollar raised goes directly toward research, and no donation is too small to make a difference. (🔗 in comments)

I’m currently in Week 6 of training, lacing up with purpose and so proud to be running again with Fred’s Team.

Together, we run toward a future without cancer. This one’s for every name I’ll carry with me, 26.2 miles, to the finish line. 🧡🧡

There’s something pretty special about books bringing people together. 🤎🍂

I’m part of a group of women from all over the world, from completely different walks of life, who somehow found each other through our shared love of books and creating bookish content.

We decided to do a fall book and goodies swap, and @what.the.teacher_reads sent me two books, Nuclear War, The Lies They Told, and a Pumpkin Pecan Waffles candle. Books + a candle that smells like fall = the kind of package I love to find on my porch! 📚🕯️

Thank you so much, Donna! I love it all! I’m so grateful that this whole book content thing has connected me with some amazing people I probably never would have crossed paths with otherwise. 🤎

Have you ever made a friend through social media that you may have never met otherwise?

Some runs are powered by playlists. Mine are powered by a really good audiobook. 🎧🏃‍♀️

These five were so good I didn’t want my run to end. The kind that make the miles fly by and have me adding a little extra distance just to finish one more chapter.

🎧 The Spoon Stealer by Lesley Crewe
🎧 The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett
🎧 Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby
🎧 Good People by Patmeena Sabit
🎧 Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth

Funny, dark, quirky, heartbreaking, twisty. A little bit of everything, but all five made the miles fly by.

QOTD: What’s an audiobook that made you completely lose track of time?

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
4.5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

Thank you @ireadvintage @prhaudio and @krakauernotwriting for the gifted copies.

I learned so much from this book about mountaineering, the extremes of the sport, and the people drawn to it. Five people died on the South side of Everest during the May 1996 storm.

I was mind boggled by the number of people who have died on Everest over the years trying to reach the summit. At least 344 people have perished, and it’s estimated that around 200 bodies remain on the mountain because recovering them is incredibly difficult and dangerous. Climbers can still encounter frozen bodies along the routes today. And people are STILL attempting Everest in large numbers every year. I’m fascinated by what makes someone willing to risk everything to stand at the top.

One quote from expedition leader Rob Hall feels especially haunting in hindsight: “With enough determination, any bloody idiot can get up this hill. The trick is to get back down alive.”

Into Thin Air is a nail biting firsthand account by journalist Jon Krakauer, who was part of the expedition when the storm hit. Four members of his team died, along with Scott Fischer, the leader of another expedition. Krakauer writes candidly about the decisions made, the guilt he carried afterward, and everything that went wrong. Delays, exhaustion, dwindling oxygen, worsening weather, and communication failures created a perfect storm during an already extremely dangerous endeavor.

The book is heavy on mountaineering vernacular, but Krakauer explains it well enough that even someone who knows nothing about climbing can follow along. Otherwise, it reads almost like a fiction adventure story, making it even more surreal knowing it all actually happened.

Pick this up if you like survival stories, extreme sports, real life disasters, human endurance, or nonfiction that reads like a thriller.

Have you ever read a book that sent you down a deep rabbit hole? 👀🙈

Some books are dark. Some are disturbing. And some leave you staring at the wall wondering what you just read.

These six absolutely wrecked me. They’re heavy, uncomfortable, psychologically intense, and definitely not books I’d recommend without checking the content warnings first. But they’re also books I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.

📚 A Little Life
📚 My Dark Vanessa
📚 Mysterious Skin
📚 On the Savage Side
📚 The Elements
📚 The Push

Have you read any of these? What book would you add to this list? 👀

A Time of Witches by Madeline Martin
4.25 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟✨

Thank you @uplitreads @hanoversquarepress and @madelinemmartin for the gifted copies! 🧡

🌙Two women separated by centuries, connected by blood
✨A modern-day mystery rooted in the witch trials of 1645
🌙Witchcraft, betrayal, and women punished for their power
✨ A crumbling English manor where past and present collide
🌙Two women fighting to rewrite history before it repeats itself

I really enjoyed this story! It’s rich with well-drawn characters, a compelling dual timeline, well-researched history, and atmospheric magical realism.

It took a minute to get going as the author built out the two storylines and established their connection, but once it picked up, the story moved quickly for me. I did a combination of print and audio, and Saskia Maarleveld did an amazing job with the narration! Her voice was perfect for this story and added so much to the atmosphere.

The gold foil cover and sprayed edges are a really nice touch on the print edition.

If you enjoy witch trial history, family stories that span generations, and dual-timeline witchy reads, we’re heading into the perfect season for this one!

August brought some really great reads for me! 📚 There were so many books I loved this month. 🩵

It’s been stifling hot here in Texas, which meant lots of time indoors or by the pool with a book in hand. ☀️📖 I’ve highlighted some of my August favorites and included a quick summary of each one.

As always, you’ll also find a list of every book I finished this month, how I rated each one, and my DNFs. Screenshot that list for your next bookshop visit! 📸📚

Now we’re heading into the fall months and the final stretch of the year, and my TBR is filling up with fall themed reads, spooky books, thrillers, and anything that feels perfect for the season. 🍂👻

THE CRYING KILLER by Jess Lourey
4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thank you @booksparks and @jesslourey for the gifted book and promo box!

Eight years after her sister was murdered by the infamous Crying Killer, Tuesday has built a new life and a new identity. There’s just one problem: she’s certain she’s seen him again. He’s supposed to be dead.

Then bodies start appearing with his unmistakable signature, and Tuesday realizes the past she’s tried so hard to bury may be coming back for her.

This one pulled me in and didn’t let up! Part thriller, part mystery, and inspired by true events. The short chapters and dual timeline had me flying through it, with lots of tension, well-placed clues, and an underlying sense of paranoia. A couple of big twists kept things interesting right up until the very end.

So good! Fast-paced, twisty, and the kind of thriller that makes it hard to put down.

I love short chapters and I think I read books with short chapters faster! Is it just me? 🤪
