There are moments that remind you just how far you’ve come.

I’m honored to officially share that I’ve been named Chief Meteorologist at KCEN 6 News — becoming the first woman and first Black Chief Meteorologist in station history.

As I make this announcement on Juneteenth, I’m reminded that every barrier broken creates space for someone else to dream bigger. This moment represents faith, perseverance, sacrifice, and the grace of God through every challenge along the way.

To every young girl, aspiring meteorologist, and future leader: you belong in every room God calls you to.

The title may be new, but the mission remains the same: to serve, inform, inspire, and continue blooming through every storm.

Light to moderate showers are moving through the area this morning. A few spotty thunderstorms cannot be completely ruled out, but widespread storms are not expected.

Rain chances will gradually decrease as we head into Sunday, with more breaks in the rain expected.

It’s the first day of fall — at least for meteorologists! September 1 marks the start of meteorological fall, which runs from September 1 through November 30. Meteorologists use three-month seasons based on the calendar to make it easier to track and compare seasonal weather patterns and climate data. But astronomical fall is a little different. That season is based on the Earth’s position relative to the Sun and officially begins with the autumnal equinox, which occurs around September 22 each year. So, meteorologically speaking, fall is here! But astronomically, we’ve got a few more weeks of summer to go. by @forecastingfaith

SMOKE VISIBLE IN TEMPLE 🚨

Temple Fire & Rescue confirms a small fire behind homes located near the AutoZone off West Adams Avenue in Temple.

I spoke with Temple Fire & Rescue Public Information Officer Santos Soto, who tells me crews responded to the fire. At this time, the cause of the fire has not been determined. More information is expected to be released later.

There is currently NO Red Flag Warning in effect for our area. However, Bell County remains under an emergency burn ban through 7 p.m. Friday, August 21.

The burn ban prohibits outdoor burning, with limited exceptions, due to the current fire danger conditions. Even without a Red Flag Warning, fires can spread quickly in these hot, dry conditions.

Ava has officially wrapped up her internship with the KCEN 6 News weather team, and she is already so missed! 🥹💙

It has been amazing watching her grow throughout her time with us, and I can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes. She’s heading into her senior year at Texas A&M, so be on the lookout for this rising meteorologist! 👀🌪️

Tropical Storm Arthur is actually Post Tropical Storm Christina from the Pacific but once she crossed into the Atlantic Basin and strengthened, she had an identity change to be renamed as the first Tropical Storm in the Atlantic Basin of the 2026 Hurricane Season 🌀
