Wrapping up the Summer season with the beautiful fruiting of Northern Red Belted Polypore from Summer Solstice, in northern Vermont. Time for Persephone to descend back to the underworld and reunite with Hades, and for our own shifting with the seasons with the Autumn Equinox occurring tomorrow. I love the cool hush of autumn and welcome the crisp days ahead. Despite the fiercely dry summer we have had in south-central PA, there are still mushrooms out there and the hunt goes on. by @forest_apsara

Original identified as Clavaria zollingeri, 2025 updates indicate that purple coral found in the United States will be either Clavaria amethystina or Clavaria violaceapulchra. Found these with a bonus black earth tongue. Groton State Forest Vermont near Peacham bog. My parents scouted the trail prior to make sure it went to the bog. My mom made it to the bog with my daughters, but my dad and I found so much fungus in one mile we only made it to the edge of it 😂 does anyone else get lost in time while hunting mushrooms?! Had a truly astounding find today- mushroom pins growing what appeared to be a soggy owl pellet. Two rodent teeth sticking out of a dark blob of broken down fur and what not- looking small but conspicuous on the forest floor. My search on iNat brought me to Onygena corvina, Feather Stalkball. The Onygena species contains keratin digesting enzymes and can grow on a variety of biological material containing keratins such as feathers, wool, fur and owl pellets- which usually contain a variety of those things. This here appears to fit the appropriate substrate! The uv light brought out the textures of the fur. by @forest_apsara

Epic Skirted Stinkhorn find by @madness_for_mushrooms in the woods on Monday which solved the mystery Witch’s Egg that I found earlier last month not far from this spot. Needless to say there was some commentary that didn’t make it to video 😂 by @forest_apsara
