Floyd running back Ja’Quan Thomas and Massapequa linebacker Anthony DiNello met each other in the hole several times in the final game of the 2024 season.

Thomas had a gaudy stat line — 172 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries — but DiNello’s squad came out with a 42-40 win in an instant classic Long Island Class I championship game.

Thomas and DiNello were named recipients of the fourth annual Gregg Sarra Trophy, which honors Long Island’s top offensive player and top defensive player, at the annual Scholar Athlete Awards Brunch of the National Football Foundation’s James C. Metzger Suffolk County chapter.

First, I want to say a huge THANK YOU to the National Football Foundation and the board for selecting me for this award. It’s truly an honor.
Everything I achieved this season wasn’t just about my own talent, my dreams, or just a drive to win. It came from the guys who rarely saw the field but cheered us on every single play, no matter what. It came from the teammates who showed up to practice every day, giving the looks we needed to improve our game alongside theirs.
Doing drills with my brothers,my team, was a constant reminder of who I was fighting for. I never wanted to let them down.
To our amazing community:
Thank you for coming out to every game, waking up early, and taking time out of your lives to support us. I can tell you firsthand…every single cheer was heard. The respect and support shown by coaches, players, and people throughout the island was truly unforgettable. It pushed me to be a better version of myself every day.
I also want to thank my coaches and my family for their unwavering faith in me. Football gives you so much. A forever family, incredible opportunities, and memories you’ll never forget. There’s no feeling like putting on that helmet pregame and getting ready to go to war with your brothers. I’m so grateful to God for giving me the ability to experience that.
Everything I’ve gained over these past two seasons has been a blessing. Thank you all again for this honor, and good luck to everyone in the future.

Thank you WF Basketball & The coaches 💚.

Coach Slink , Coach Stines, Coach Bak, and Coach D🕊️.
Without your constant support, shaping me into a better man and believing in me on and off the court. I wouldn’t be the person I am today . Thank you 🫶🏾.

Wouldn’t want to go to war with a different team💚.

Basketball’s pretty fun❤️.
