“And that’s part of the trouble. Thinking things are inevitable. Not believing change is possible.” — Lenore Dove

My OFFICIAL ENTRY for the #StilaxTheHungerGamesMovie makeup contest! @stilacosmetics

I’ve been a huge fan of The Hunger Games since I was 14, and when I saw this opportunity, I knew I had to at least try. I truly poured my whole heart into this look, and I hope that love shines through! 🧡💚

For my entry, I kept coming back to Lenore Dove’s words and the promise Haymitch made to her: that one day, the sun would rise on a world without a reaping.

Lenore Dove represents the countless unsung individuals who resist injustice, even when the odds seem insurmountable. And I think her words are just as meaningful in our own world as they are in Panem. Sometimes we get so used to the way things are that it’s hard to imagine anything different. Change can feel impossible, especially when there’s so much suffering and injustice around us. But that doesn’t mean it is. It might not happen tomorrow, and there may be immeasurable pain and loss along the way, but even the smallest spark of hope can one day grow into an inferno.

That’s what I wanted to capture in my makeup. On one eye: a sunrise over the meadow, with little flowers blooming and geese resting in the grass. As Lenore Dove once told Haymitch, “Just like my geese, I mate for life.” And 26 years later, after the war was finally over and he could finally begin to heal, Haymitch would raise geese of his own.

And on the other eye, a mockingjay flying over that same meadow toward the rising sun. Not just a symbol of rebellion, but a reminder of Katniss, who helped bring that spark of hope back into Haymitch’s life after so many years of grief and loss. Through her, he finally got to see the world he’d once promised Lenore Dove.

A world where the sun could rise without a reaping. 💜💛
