What happens when memory begins to blur into imagination? 🛌🌌

In Lu Gan’s (@forganlu) paintings, familiar spaces become uncertain - domestic interiors, remembered places and fleeting encounters shift, compress and dissolve. Perspective is no longer fixed; instead, space moves like memory itself, shaped by fragments, feelings and possibility.

Drawing on the idea that perspective is culturally constructed, Gan invites us beyond simply recognising a place. Her paintings ask us to experience it, to inhabit that space between what we remember and what we imagine.

Light becomes psychological rather than atmospheric, quietly revealing the fragile boundary between the world around us and the inner landscapes we carry.
A painting can be a place, a memory, or something in between.

‘What Remains Visible’ is on view now at Upsilon Gallery London.
