Do you guys remember that scene in Notting Hill when Hugh Grant walks through the seasons in Portobello Market as 'Ain't no sunshine' plays in the background?

Surprisingly, it is my favourite part of the movie. How he comes out on the other side, amongst blooms and new born babies, and time has gone so fast, the seasons being so fleeting. Autumn, I find, is the most fleeting of all.

I loved reading I Who Have Never Known Men, not because of its ending (which was frustratingly open, to be honest), but because of Harpman’s ability to write such simple sentences that make you think a hundred times deeper than expected.

We Were Forbidden carries that same sense of questioning, psychological depth, and exploration of forbidden thoughts that makes her writing so compelling.
