✨formalighting: “As a designer, what is your relationship with lighting?"
Susanna Antico: “It's my language, the way of making my ideas come true, it is a personal yet universal language. It translates the design vision with unrivalled power. It's a multifunctional tool; it can restore, mend, rearrange, caress, sculpt, attack, shatter, separate, confuse, erase, exalt. And more. In my favourite expression, lighting talks with space, with architecture, with interpreting them according to the cultural context of each place and making the users feel at ease. Lighting after sunset integrates, continues, implements what the urban planner, the architect, and the landscape designer have created for the daytime expression of the built space.”

✨formalighting: “In everyday life, what is your relationship with light?"
Susanna Antico: “It's like never being alone; it's a faithful companion, never boring, never predictable, always surprising. Sometimes the effect of light is so fleeting that one has to stop, stay still and just fully enjoy it and learn about beauty. It's addictive; I seek out shadows, contrasts, reflections, sparkle. The more I observe the lit space around me, the more I'm amazed by how much it continues to surprise me and how, regardless of what I'm doing, it's capable of capturing my attention and make me smile.”

The new lighting for the Church of San Girolamo della Carità in Rome, designed by lighting designers Marco Stignani and Luciano Stignani, enhances the entire sacred architectural complex and its beauty thanks to a lighting design in which visual control, system sustainability, and energy efficiency are in perfect balance. The lighting solutions adopted, of great visual impact, naturally guide the visitor’s gaze toward the details of the wooden ceiling, the main nave, the presbytery, and the altar, as well as the works of art in the eight side chapels and the architectural details, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the experience.

The modularity of our high color rendering index projectors (CRI 97), equipped with a sophisticated set of interchangeable photometric distributions, enabled the lighting designers to precisely calibrate the illumination of the different architectural geometries and the artworks to be enhanced. Spot 12°, Flood 30°, Oval Flood, asymmetric light distributions, and luminaires with a diffuse symmetrical distribution were used. The customization of the selected fixtures (special RAL finish and double-jointed mount) made it possible to install them above cornices, capitals, and architectural projections so as to conceal them as much as possible, while ensuring wide flexibility in orienting the optics toward the surfaces to be highlighted. The spots were equipped with anti-glare snoots to improve the overall perceptual comfort of the environment.
