One book leads to another. 📚

For a week, Toke (Toko Kopi Seni) will turn into a mini library through Formatz. Pop-Up Library, a small project by @yessiow.

She will be sharing part of her personal collection, from art and design books to stickers, postcards, brochures, exhibition catalogues, and other printed matter collected along the way.

The idea is simple: to make these references accessible, give printed materials a space to be explored, and let people spend time with things they might not usually come across.

No special agenda. Just books and printed matter to browse, read, and discover over a cup of coffee.

Semiotics of the End: Essays on Capitalism and the Apocalypse
Alessandro Sbordoni

Category: Philosophy / Cultural Theory / Media Theory
Type: Book / Essays
Language: English
Publisher: Becoming Press
Publication: 2025, 2nd edition

Summary:
A collection of essays exploring how contemporary culture imagines the end of the world. Sbordoni connects capitalism, technology, popular culture, music, cinema, and internet phenomena to examine why ideas of apocalypse have become repetitive, commercialized, and strangely familiar. The book asks whether imagining the end can also become a way of imagining something beyond the systems that produced it. by @formatz.archive

Art is More
Jan Laurens Siesling

Category: Art / Art History / Philosophy
Type: Book / Art Theory
Language: English
Publisher: Arte Libro / Exhibitions International
Publication: 2015
Pages: 256

Summary:
Rather than organizing art history around movements, styles, or individual artists, Jan Laurens Siesling approaches art through the fundamental questions it has raised throughout human civilization. Written almost like a novel, the book considers why art exists and how it connects to human experience, culture, and existential questions. Interestingly, the book contains no images, encouraging the reader to engage with art through ideas rather than visual reproduction.

Edited by Juan Duque and David Bergé

Category: Art / Gender / Philosophy / Art History
Type: Art Book / Critical Theory
Language: English
Publisher: kyklàda.press
Publication: 2020
Pages: 96

Summary:
Using the ancient Roman sculpture of the Sleeping Hermaphrodite as a starting point, this publication examines how art, history, and cultural institutions have shaped ideas about gender and the body.
