So many memories and new friends made. So many side quests, laughter, inside jokes, siestas, shared meals, random conversations, and moments of loving complete strangers. I never thought a single music festival could feel this healing.

One of my favorite things about festivals is how naturally these environments let people connect. In a world that can feel increasingly disconnected, you get a few days where everyone’s walls come down. You talk to people you never would have met otherwise. You share things freely. You look out for each other. You find that little spark of humanity again.

And then, hopefully, you integrate the experience and take some of that spark home with you to share with others.

There’s also something special about having permission to let all your fun weirdness out and having it celebrated instead of judged. To be playful. To dress however you want. To dance however your body wants to move. To be curious, expressive, ridiculous, vulnerable, authentic, and completely yourself.

You make friends you probably never would have crossed paths with in normal life, and somehow, a few days later, it feels like you’ve known each other much longer.

The greatest part of this whole experience was this crew of genuinely good souls. For a lot of us, the only common thread at the beginning was that we live / lived in Arizona. By the end - we felt like a tribe that established real roots together.

My cup of gratitude for SSBD + these humans is overwhelming and overflowing.

I can’t wait until we find our way back and create the magic all over again. 🌱🤘🏽

My grandmother was alone in northern Arizona for a while after her husband Jack died. Living in an assisted living facility there that felt bleak and old.

This upgrade in her life to move to Kuala Lumpur was massive. Her place feels like living on a brand new cruise ship with all the amenities and friends she’s made there.

It also is directly attached to a renowned international hospital, a mall, waterpark, grocery store, and more. I can’t wait to move here when I’m 55+ years old haha

I’ve really enjoyed learning about Balinese Hinduism. Their philosophy, views on life, death, rituals, gods, daily offerings, and combining all this into practice within their everyday lives. Lots of similarities and overlaps with other forms of Hinduism, Buddhism, Japanese Shintoism, etc. that I also find fascinating.

The little I’ve learned so far brings lots of great teachings and unique views on the world that I want to integrate into my own personal conglomeration / Smorgasbord of philosophy and spirituality. This was a unique water purification ritual that felt very special and in an environment that was otherworldly. taken in Griya Beji Waterfall by @forrestmcg

A part of my soul has found a new home in Amed, Bali.

I’ve been freediving, and traveling around the world to freedive, for over 10 years, and I’ve never experienced a place quite like this before.

Within the first two days at @apneistafreediving I felt like I had already found my tribe. Usually that kind of community feel takes time to build, but here it felt almost instantaneous.

One of the things I love most about freediving is how quickly freedivers seem to realize we’re on same wavelength. A group of us can come from completely different corners of the world, with completely different lives and backgrounds, and somehow instantly connect through the way we like to experience life with our adventurous spirits and our fun, curious, and growth oriented attitudes.

This trip has been full of making new friends, reconnecting with old friends, and having old friends introduce me to new ones. It’s such a special little community, and my cup is overflowing with gratitude.

And it hasn’t only been the freediving community.

I’ve made new Balinese friends who have taught me so much about how they see the world, community, spirituality, and what it means to find fulfillment and joy in everyday life. And visiting the @samsaralivingmuseum to dive in even deeper. There’s something about it that can feel almost foreign compared with the hustle, grind, achievement, and ambition that so often defines life back home in the U.S.

I’m leaving this experience feeling incredibly inspired to create more, explore more, adventure more, and bring other people along for their own journeys too.

After taking some time to reflect on everything this place has given me, I feel confident this won’t be my last time in Amed.

It feels like I may have found another nest in the world that I can fly to and call it home 🏠 taken in Amed, Bali, Indonesia by @forrestmcg
