Zarohma is a world with a language of its own, invented by theatre director Soubhi Shami. A surreal yet real space and time, where fantasy and freedom take unfamiliar forms.

The piece connects the political world outside with the intimate relationships between its characters, leaving room for you to discover your own stories, questions and your own answers.

In Zarohma, understanding moves beyond words. Its language holds momentum, presence and belonging rather than ownership. Love and compassion without possession. Yet those who inhabit this world still struggle with what it means to be close.

Welcome our Stage & Fashion designer of Zarohma Raneem Maatouk ⚡️

Raneem is a multidisciplinary artist based in Leipzig. She studied Visual Communication at Arab International University in Syria and completed her Diploma in Painting and Graphic Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB). Since 2021, her work has been presented in exhibitions across Germany and Switzerland.

Her works across media in a poetic and conceptually driven practice. Rather than using media as illustrative tools, she approaches them as poetic and communicative instruments. Her work moves between figurative modernism, post-surrealism, and contemporary conceptual, installation, and performance art, often employing collage-based approaches to time and narrative.

She explores themes of existence, memory, and reality through a poetic visual language. Blue frequently functions in her work as both an atmospheric state and a conceptual carrier.

Welcome to Forte family 🙏🏼🙏🏼⚡️

Viva Vittoria Leipzig - offene Projektwerkstatt: 06.

Black Spaces x Sci-Fi reading circle: 08. Oktober von 18:30-20:30

„We read: U.K. Le Guin’s „The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas“ and N.K. Jemisin’s „The Ones Who Stay and Fight“. Both texts are in English; the talks can be in English and German.

This event is B_iPoC only.

For texts and questions, please register through this email address: rcalet@proton.me“

We are happy to share more details for the upcoming Leipzig Oud Festival 2026, happening November 13-22.

The masterclass held by @alaazouiten approaches the oud from the western end of the Arab world, where Maghrebi, Andalusian and Iberian repertoires have been in conversation for centuries.

We begin with material rarely written for the instrument: original Gnawa techniques and Moroccan and Algerian Chaabi patterns, transposed onto the oud and adapted to what the instrument can actually do. From there we move into flamenco — building falsetas, accompanying a singer, and working through the harmonic and chordal thinking that Maghrebi music and flamenco each bring to the same modal material, with Anouar Brahem's Tunisian playing as a contrasting model of phrasing and restraint. Plectrum technique runs through all workshop days as a practical thread.

💡 The class is aimed at advanced players. Participants are expected to be secure in maqam, comfortable with risha technique and able to learn by ear at tempo.

📌 Deadline for masterclass applications 31 August !
Email to art@forte-leipzig.com

Alaa Zouiten is a Moroccan oud player, composer and curator based in Berlin whose work rests on what he calls plaisir transculturel: the pleasure of moving between traditions, rather than the duty of connecting them.

Born in Casablance, he trained on the oud at the Conservatoire National de Marrakech, beginning in Moroccan fusion as a member of the Gnawa-rock band Jbara. Based in Berlin for over a decade, he has since worked across jazz-rock, Arabic-Andalusian repertoire, flamenco, orchestral musicand theatre, on three albums of his own and in a long list of other people's projects.

His album AFICIONADO – Flamenco Moro (2025), the result of years of study in Andalusia, was awarded four stars by Songlines and has been performed at the Bienal del Flamenco in Seville, on tour in China and at @hkw_berlin. As a curator he built the festival Sonic Pluriverse – Global Echoes of Gnawa at HKW in 2026.
