62,000 trees later 🥹 (2017 summer before planting to this July 2024 🫶🏽) So many communities, volunteers, partnerships, and friends came together with the right support to make this real! Pictured here is a snapshot of a few years of restoration work by the Yangil and Banawen Communities of Zambales ✊🏽 A new forest in our lifetime is here 🌬️ A big thank you to @onetreeplanted @biotenphilippines, and our lawyer groups (who have continued helping us fight!) for the continuous support for our home.

In 2017, @madtravel_ph started work with the Yangil and Banawen Communities, offering tours for more of us to come join in the reforestation efforts! MAD travel started it off with 20k trees before @forthefutureph was born from joining one of their tours!🦋 we started working together ever since!

A huge congratulations to @rayhanna.dc 💗 Our second Sponsor a Student scholar and second graduate from the Yangil Community! Rayhanna studied nursing and is set to also be the first nurse of the Yangil community 🫶🏽 We are so proud of you Rayhanna!

Inspired by the first two graduates of our program, 6 others from the community have signed up for the scholarship program to study forestry and tourism to equip themselves to be the next generations of guardians to their ancestral lands 🌀

Siargao is not an empty paradise. It is home: to locals, residents, indigenous communities, surfers, artists, fisherfolks, queer people, and everyone whose life is rooted in the island beyond tourism.

@dpwhph you are the worst. Enough four-lane highways that destroy our land, sea, and people as so-called solutions to your lack of education in good urban planning.

Sign our petition via bit.ly/signandsavesimariki (link in bio) to #SaveSimariki — the ancestral domain of the Sama Banguingui for centuries now being erased by the DPWH. The community leaders in fact are even suggesting alternatives roots that at least by-pass the communities livelihood programs and yet not even compensation for reparations has been offered.

The surrounding seaweed has been already dying out due to the constructions pollution. Their cottages that act as eco-tourism to protect their centuries old mangroves that hold the soul of their indigenous wisdom are all going to be destroyed.

For a community that was already completely burned down during the Zamboanga siege, and now again after recovering being faced with another threat, how can we all start forcing our government to design better. Good design is crucial for development and this is not development — this is exploitation.

On April 19, 2026, 19 people, including children, students, farmers, and activists, were killed in a small village on Negros Island. One of them, Alyssa, a UP student leader, is from San Juan—the surf town we call home. It was a tragedy, but this wasn’t the first time that civilians have been killed in this manner. Nor will it be the last—especially if we do nothing. The Philippines is one of the deadliest places in the world for environmental defenders; since Marcos Jr. came into power, the majority of extrajudicial killings have happened on Negros Island. And the militarization is only getting worse. We cannot stay silent.

We cannot heal our islands without defending the lives of those on the frontline: our stewards, our activists, our farmers, our fishers, our youth.

Please consider following and donating to @patria_ph to support the Defend Negros campaign (swipe to the end for their QR code). So far, they are supporting a fact-finding mission to Toboso, with a full report coming out soon. They are also providing direct assistance to some of the families of the 19 killed.

*Update: 5 more individuals including a student leader have been killed in another military operation in Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on May 16.

2 years of our Sponsor a Student program with the students of @mambagongon ES! 🤧💚 Time flies so fast— we just celebrated our second graduation together last Saturday too!

We would also like to take this time to celebrate the support of CB Andrew who just completed their 2 years pledge to support the Lake Mambagongon community 🙏 Through their support, we were able to serve over 10,800 nutritious meals, lovingly prepared by the teachers and mothers of the community 🥳🍛🍳🍎🥔🍜🥝🍉🥒🥕🌽🥬🍚🥙 this helped support 54 students from malnutrition, as well as renovate the floating school, build the floating library and garden, and equip the infrastructure with solar lights and fans! Efforts recognized by DepEd CARAGA through recognition for Ma’am Del, our head teacher.

In celebration of World Wetlands Day, themed “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage,” PAMO–Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, in collaboration with @forthefutureph @issabarte.art @raphgalvez , @mambagongon , and RHU La Paz-Agusan del Sur, conducted a medical mission at Lake Mambagongon—home to the Agusanon Manobo tribe in the Agusan Marsh—to provide essential health services to the community. This activity was one of the key initiatives led by PAMO–AMWS in spearheading the national World Wetlands Day celebration, together with various partner agencies and stakeholders.

The medical mission highlighted that human well-being is an integral component of wetland conservation, emphasizing the vital and inseparable connection between healthy communities and the ecosystems that sustain them. By addressing basic health needs and strengthening community resilience, the activity demonstrated how investing in people supports traditional knowledge, encourages environmental stewardship, and contributes to the long-term protection and sustainable management of wetlands.
