Utstillingen God in a Beer Can & VIDLE HIMLA står til 15. november.

Opening Thursday 1 October 6 PM at Fotografiens Hus.

Thomas Lafuente presents God in a Beer Can alongside K. Linnea Backe’s WILD SKIES.

In «God in a Beer Can» empty beer cans are transformed into pinhole cameras. Each can contains light-sensitive photographic paper and are left outdoors for an average of 6 months of time. Without a lens or digital manipulation, the sun’s daily movements are recorded directly onto the photographic paper. The result is solargraphs: long-exposure still images in which the movement of the sun is recorded over days, weeks or even months. Changes in weather and variations in light become visible traces of time passing.

In spring 2025, Lafuente placed 170 handmade cameras along a six-kilometre stretch of the E10 between Kabelvåg and Svolvær. The cameras were attached to lampposts and left in place for several months. When they were later collected, each image was digitised and returned to the same sequence in which the cameras had been positioned along the road. Several months of slow recording were then compressed into a solargraphic film sequence lasting just a few seconds.

At Fotografiens Hus, the film is shown alongside several individual solargraphs, the original beer-can cameras and documentation of the working process. By presenting both the images and the tools that created them, the exhibition highlights the physical and experimental qualities of the project.

Opening Thursday 1 October 6 PM at Fotografiens Hus, Oslo

K. Linnea Backe presents WILD SKIES alongside Thomas Lafuente’s God in a Beer Can

WILD SKIES takes place in Jæren, a landscape K. Linnea Backe has returned to over many years. The photographs do not seek to document the landscape, but to approach an experienced and imagined version of it: a space where memories, knowledge and sensory impressions merge:

”I am looking for the place where the horizon meets the sea and the land - a place that does not exist, which is made of dreams. A portal to another consciousness where everything becomes connected.” she says. taken in Fotografiens Hus by @fotografienshus

PINHOLE-WORKSHOP: Lag ditt eget kamera

Sted: Fotografiens Hus

Yesterday we opened God in a Beer Can by Thomas Lafuente and VIDLE HIMLA / Wild Skies by K Linnea Backe at Fotografiens Hus, Oslo.

A big thank you to Linnea and Thomas for sharing their work with us, and Sakib Saboor from our exhibition committee for opening the exhibition. And to everyone who came to celebrate the opening with us!

In VIDLE HIMLA, K Linnea Backe explores landscape and experience through an analogue and tactile photographic practice. In God in a Beer Can, Thomas Lafuente works with time, light and chance, using empty beer cans as cameras and exposing photographic paper to the sun for several months, allowing the sun’s movement across the sky to appear directly in the images.

📷❕Join us tomorrow, Saturday 3 October, for artist talks at Fotografiens Hus. Doors open at 18:30 and the first talk starts at 19:00.

There will be some good drinks and mezze to share, so come by, spend some time with the exhibitions and join the conversation.

K Linnea Backe will be in conversation with Meera M. Kaur, followed by Thomas Lafuente in conversation with Stig Marlon Weston.

Free admission. Everyone is welcome!

🗓 The exhibition is on view until 15 November.

The artist talk is supported by Fritt Ord and Norske Fagfotografers Fond.

Gratis!

I God in a Beer Can bruker Thomas Lafuente tomme ølbokser som pinhole-kameraer, hvor solens bevegelser registreres direkte på lysfølsomt fotopapir over flere måneder.

Sted: Fotografiens Hus, Oslo
Tid: lørdag 3. oktober 2026, dørene åpner kl 1830 - første samtale begynner kl 19.00.

«Kate and Carol» came to a close last Saturday at Fotografiens Hus.

The exhibition brought together Cheryl Newman and Katharine MacDaid’s photographic projects centred around their mothers, and explored intimacy, family, and the ways relationships can shift over time.

Over the course of the exhibition, we were happy to welcome many visitors into the gallery, among them Fyrstikkalléen skole who received an introduction to the exhibition from Katharine herself. We also welcomed curator and gallerist Zelda Cheatle for a conversation with Cheryl Newman and Katharine MacDaid about «Kate and Carol» on Saturday 26th of September.

Thank you to Cheryl Newman and Katharine MacDaid, and Zelda Cheatle, and to everyone who visited the exhibition, joined the conversation and spent time with the works. Here are a few moments from the exhibition, visits, the talk and the very opening!

The exhibition and programme received funding from Fritt Ord and Norske Fagfotografers Fond

VIDLE HIMLA & God in a Beer Can

To ulike, analoge fotografiske praksiser møtes på Fotografiens Hus denne høsten; «VIDLE HIMLA» av K. Linnea Backe og «God in a Beer Can» av Thomas Lafuente.

Torsdag 1. oktober kl. 18.00. Åpningstale ved Sakib Saboor fra Fotografiens Hus sin utstillingskomité.

⭐️⭐️ Save the date: Kunstnersamtaler lørdag 3. oktober kl 18.30 K. Linnea Backe i samtale med Meera Manjit Kaur og Thomas Lafuente i samtale med Stig Marlon Weston. Dørene åpner kl 18.30 og første samtale starter kl 19.00.⭐️⭐️

I «God in a Beer Can» forvandler Thomas Lafuente tomme ølbokser til enkle pinhole-kameraer. Hver boks inneholder fotografisk papir og plasseres utendørs over lengre tid.

Prosjektet «God in a Beer Can» er støttet av Norske Fagfotografers Fond, Tvibit Tromsø, Samfunnsløftet Sparebank 1 Nord-Norge og Statens Vegvesen.
