The Gallery & Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

This week, we welcome our Freshers to campus, and there is an incredible buzz across AUB that we absolutely love!

Our students are the magic that makes AUB sparkle, bringing creativity, colour, and energy to every corner of campus.

Today, in The Gallery Café, our Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students took part in photography workshops, capturing images of the masks they created during last week’s mask-making sessions.

As they say, “only at an arts university can you find creativity in every corner”!

Congratulations to our talented AUB alumna, Zainab Jiwa! 🎓 @zeewhatidid

Every year at the Arts University Bournemouth Graduation Awards, we celebrate individuals who have made a lasting impact on the worlds of art, design, media, and performance through the award of Honorary Fellowships.

This prestigious honour is bestowed upon those who have a meaningful connection with Arts University Bournemouth and have made significant contributions to their creative field, whether through professional practice or education.

Graduation is always a proud milestone, and this year we were delighted to celebrate Zainab, who was recognised with this distinguished honour.

Zainab studied on the Foundation course at Arts University Bournemouth and was also a Student Ambassador.

She played an important role in supporting the opening of our Drawing Studio in partnership with TheGallery AUB, the first purpose-built drawing studio to be constructed at a UK arts institution in over a century, and Sir Peter Cook's first completed building in the UK. Today, it stands as a landmark that shapes our campus, our culture, and the artistic journeys of every student who walks through its doors.

Zainab is shining example of the creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for storytelling that define our AUB community.

She continues to inspire through her artwork and creative practice and continues to draw, create, and share her work with the world.

You are a superstar, Zainab—keep shining bright!

**What is considered waste in one industry becomes power in another.**

Before it was a garment, it was a room. A curtain that filtered light. A velvet that welcomed guests. A carpet that recorded footsteps. Over time, these textiles became witnesses — absorbing memory, conversation, the quiet evidence of a house’s identity.

THE CURATOR inherits these fragments. She is not nostalgic. She does not preserve history — she curates it. She decides what survives.

**The house becomes the wardrobe.**
**The interior becomes identity.**

Real brief. Real materials. Real runway. 👀
Our Foundation Fashion students are taking part in the Sustainable Fashion Show — a collective showcase of designers, models, upcyclers and creatives. While every participant brings their own materials and story, ours is built entirely from off-cuts and sample books donated by @house_of_sonnaz, a luxury upholstery and bespoke interiors studio.

AUB Summer Shows 2026

Foundation Summer Show Workshops

Each year, the Schools and Colleges Liaison Team, working alongside TheGallery Team, delivers guided and self-guided tours, as well as creative workshops, for school groups visiting the AUB Summer Shows.

These visits welcome hundreds of young learners, giving them the opportunity to explore creative work, discover future study options, and imagine themselves as part of the AUB community.

This week, we welcomed schools and colleges to our Foundation Summer Show hands-on workshops, led by Vanessa Collingridge, Course Leader for Foundation Art and Design.

If your school or college is interested in working with AUB, our Schools and Colleges Liaison Team can arrange free creative workshops, talks on creative careers, campus visits, and opportunities for students to experience our studios, galleries, and performances.

AUB Summer Shows 2026 Officially Launch

Our AUB Summer Shows 2026 are now officially underway, following the successful opening of our Foundation Summer Show last night.

Be sure to visit the exhibition today and throughout next week to experience the incredible work on display from our talented students.

We were delighted to welcome a full house for the launch event, with Foundation students, their families, staff, external visitors, the Mayor of Bournemouth, and the Chair of the AUB Board of Governors joining us to celebrate.

More than 300 guests attended the opening in The Gallery, creating a fantastic atmosphere for the start of this year's Summer Shows.

The Foundation Summer Show is open to the public, and everyone is welcome to visit.

Arts University Bournemouth Supports Ringwood School Photography Competition at TheGallery

The Gallery and AUB's Schools and Colleges Team works together …..

For the past three years, Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) has been one of the sponsors of Ringwood School's annual Interschool Photographic Competition, with TheGallery proud to host the competition exhibition, last year as part of its 2025 – 2026 Exhibition and Events Programme.

Now in its 12th year, the competition has grown from a local charity calendar project into a popular regional event, showcasing the photographic talents of students, teachers, and parents.

The competition is supported by AUB, the Royal Photographic Society and the Rotary Club of Ringwood.

In November 2025, TheGallery was delighted to host the Ringwood School Interschool Photographic Competition Exhibition 2025: Layers, developed in collaboration with AUB's Schools and Colleges team.

We look forward to continuing this successful partnership and supporting next year's competition and exhibition.
