For someone arriving in Aotearoa as a former refugee, finding work can mean more than earning an income. Work can provide routine, independence, purpose, friendships and a sense of belonging.

This understanding sits at the heart of the Bread Collective, an initiative using baking as a practical and mana-enhancing way to support former refugees as they build the skills, confidence and connections needed to find meaningful work in Aotearoa.

"We had the resource, and Le Va had the relationships" says Vaovasatoa Albert Scott, our Engagement Advisor. "Together, that created the 'Inasi Fund and the response from Pacific communities across Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau was overwhelming. But the real impact wasn’t just in the applications, it was in the relationships and seeing those ideas come to life in our communities. That’s the power of devolved funding, trusting the village, backing those who know their communities, and creating opportunities where everyone can benefit."

'Inasi Fund 2.0 is open now for Northland and Auckland based initiatives helping Pasifika disabled people access resources and support services to lead fulfilling lives. by @foundationnorth

Through the first ‘Inasi Fund, Marlon and Will Fleming brought their app idea, People in Pursuit of Success, to life. The app uses the power of voice and smart technology to enable people to share about their story and more about the disability that they have.
The app creates a personalised report that can be easily shared with whānau or health professionals, so the disability community can be understood for who they are, not just what they are.

Now, ‘Inasi Fund 2.0 is open! In partnership with Foundation North, we’re looking for innovative ideas, projects and initiatives that uplift Pasifika people with disabilities.

Have an idea that could make a difference? We’d love to hear it.

📅 Applications are open now and close Monday 5 October 2026.

Foundation North Engagement Advisors and kaimahi had a great time last week at the @disabilityconnectnz Transition Expo in Tāmaki Makaurau!

The annual event connects rangatahi, young adults and their whānau with groups, organisations, and service providers to explore what is possible for life after school finishes.

With over 150 stallholders sharing disability supports in tertiary education, support services, employer conversations, public services, sport and recreation, banking, and social enterprises the team were excited to connect with some familiar faces and learn more about what meaningful support for young people transitioning out of school can look like.

How do we assess funding applications??

When you apply for funding, your request goes through an assessment process that helps us determine if it is a strong fit with our strategy. Our priority is always to fund projects and initiatives that highly align with one of our four focus areas.

We have a limited grants budget and each request is considered alongside all other requests for the funding available.
