The barriers are real. Red tape around entering the trades. Not enough people in them. And materials that need specialist knowledge, stopping ordinary people from building their own homes. 🔨

Kuponya is already working with Habitat for Humanity, and with suppliers in the US to create kits designed for each region.

"I knew I couldn't just get back on that plane and pretend I hadn't seen anything." ✈️

When Jordan started @kuponyainnovations, the running joke was: we are not building housing. They were looking at innovative construction materials through an environmental lens.

Then, in August 2022, she flew to the Northwest Territories to visit an Indigenous community.

"The room was probably the size of a regular boardroom, but it was packed with community members." 🏡

What she heard: nobody ever talks to them about what type of housing they need. Materials get shipped up from the south with no consultation. And young people are leaving because there's nowhere affordable to stay or start their lives.

"It became very clear that it's not new materials that are needed. It's a new approach to building homes."

So that's what Kuponya became. Built on listening first. 💛

What if you could build your own home, with no construction experience? 🏡

That's what Jordan is making possible with @kuponyainnovations.

Kuponya is a Swahili word that means "to heal". The mission: heal climate and community by building one climate resilient home at a time. 🌍

Here's the problem. We have a global housing crisis and a global climate crisis. Construction is siloed and fragmented. And there aren't enough people entering the trades.

So Kuponya does it differently. They partner with suppliers who meet a long list of criteria (climate resilience, sustainability, energy efficiency and affordability) and package it all into a Kuponya kit.

Then comes the digital assembly guide. "It's to support unskilled individuals. So the two of us, or the audience, could actually build the home themselves." 🔨

The moment you want to quit might be the moment you're closest. 🎯

Branice, co-founder @signvrse , on the reality nobody likes to hear:

"You're going to fail several times. That's just a reality you have to accept."

In three years, Signverse has been through many iterations of its products. "We've made a lot of mistakes. And really just being open to that matters."

What gets you through? 💪

"Remember the end goal. Okay, I may fail, but this is what I really want to achieve. Stick to it long enough until you see it in reality."

Because the hardest part is this: "Maybe you're so close to getting to that goal, but because of the challenges, you find yourself drawing back."

"Interpreters exist, but they're scarce for the number of people they need to serve. They're expensive, and usually difficult to scale in every conversation or every digital service."

Their answer is Tap360. 🤟

Gheida @signvrrse on the culture that holds their team together:

"We build with the deaf community themselves. That's our biggest culture."

Some of their team members are deaf and hard of hearing. They support data collection and validate the product at every stage. 💡

"Working with the community helps us see the challenge first hand, and also the solution we're trying to build."

It's also what keeps them going: "We want to see the change in the community we live in. We want communication not to be a barrier, but something that elevates the deaf community."

And no, age isn't a reason to wait. "We are never too young to build and grow." ✨

What kept them going?

"Having a strong enough why, so the challenges don't take you further from the vision you have."

And embracing the journey for what it is. "No journey goes smoothly without its challenges. Sometimes the challenges make it worth the try." 💪

Her take on competition: "You won't know if you'll ever make it if you don't try. So why sit back and do nothing? If you fail, at least you tried."

The goal hasn't changed: a stable company that expands globally. 🌍
