Meet the sisters behind Feed The Block 🤎

Swipe to see who we are ✨

Feed the block started with one thought … everyone should have access to good food, especially during the holidays!

I’m Sorindy 🥰 A mom of two boys and a pit, and a professional over-thinker. I love good food, cooking different types of foods, decorating, and spending time with my family. I’m usually somewhere laughing too loud, planning my next step in life, or convincing myself that I absolutely need to redecorate something 😂.

Fun Fact: I’m a creative visionary. I’ll take a random idea and immediately start figuring out how to make it real. Oh, and I’m naturally grey! (Guess that’s two fun facts lol)

Why feed the block?: Honestly, I just wanted to help. Knowing that someone right in our own community could be worried about where their next meal is coming from just never sat right with me. So my sister and I did what we do best, we had an idea and we ran with it 😂. We figured instead of talking about what we wished we could do, why not just do something? We started small, our community showed up BIG, and after seeing all that love, there was no way we weren’t coming back for round two… just bigger and better this time!

We’re a Dominican family of 8 🤭 Our parents had 6 kids so we grew up in a literal, full house.

I’m Joannelys! 💃🏽 As you can see, our parents got very creative with their first and last daughter’s names 🤣 I’m type A++ so I spend a lot of my time on an adventure, or planning the next one. I firmly believe that the way through life is to always have something exciting planned whether it’s big or small. We only have one life, live it ❤️

Fun Fact: I’m a DIY girly through and through 💅 Call me Jo The Builder/nail artist/ home decorator/all of the above 😂

Why feed the block?: If food is a basic human need, why do 1 in 7 US households suffer with food insecurity? That’s my why. I’ve always been big on community and helping others, but a few years ago I went on a mission trip to help feed low income families in Atlanta. That trip has stuck with me till this day. For years I wanted to volunteer at a food bank again, but I felt I needed to do something bigger. Rather than taken in Brooklyn, New York by @four.1.three

My favorite Dominican tradition? When the plane lands and everyone breaks out into clapping, cheers, and praise ❤️🤍💙

I’m the birthday! 🎉

This year, I turned my birthday dinner into an experience ✨🌱 — The Reset Table.

I centered the night around wellness, intention, and letting go; from wellness shots on arrival to one of the best meals we’ve ever had, made by @rindys_kitchen 🤭

Each guest wrote what they’re releasing on dissolvable paper before planting their seeds 🌱 As the paper dissolved, so did the worries… and as the plant grows, so do we 🌿✨

Everyone left with their plants, and a framed photo of themselves as a flower bouquet that reflects their personality 🌺

28 is all about intentionality 🫶🏽
Cheers to meeee 😜🥂

Yesterday @rindys_kitchen and I cohosted our first independent food drive. We’ve spent hours on the phone every night talking about all things leading up to the big day.

With the help of our donators and volunteers, we managed to raise over $1,000 and donate food to 70+ families in Brooklyn 🙏🏽

And let’s not forget the fact that this was only our first year! Imagine what we could do in the years to come! This will only get bigger and better 🥹❤️

There’s a lot going on in this world today; if we all play a role in helping those in need we could make a difference larger than you may think.

Find a cause you’re passionate about (mine is food insecurity) and go from there. If you need help finding places you can volunteer in, feel free to reach out to me!
