Comments like this make my day. I started this account as a creative outlet since I don’t do photography for work anymore, and it’s all about capturing the sweet personalities of Philly’s animals—the creatures that, no matter their background or breed, bring out the best in us. But through it all, I’ve also gotten to know the incredible people who support them—the first-time pet parents, the crazy ones with multiple pets like myself, the pet influencers, the pet parents preparing for goodbye, the many local pet businesses and the hardworking animal nonprofits, rescues, and shelters who work tirelessly to keep space for new animals in need. These four-legged friends might be the heart of the content, but it’s the amazing community behind them that keeps them happy and loved. Meet Dewey, a seven-year-old rescue who made his way from the South to New Jersey and into a family that adores him.

He deals with hip dysplasia these days, but still has plenty of enthusiasm for his favorite things—especially his Ruff Dawg fish. Dewey also grew up alongside his Cane Corso sibling, Nola, who was a big part of his world.

Meet Chicken, the cutest mixed-breed puppy who is quickly growing into those paws and still figuring out just how much there is to see in Rittenhouse Square.

At about four months old when this photo was taken, he was already becoming a pro at people watching, squirrel spotting, and taking in all the action around the park. Wallace the Great Pyrenees is not so sure about the rain but boy does he know how to rock a raincoat?! Another Sunday in Philly at least brings out the best in puddle fashion even if the pups are not so happy to be outside! Stay dry, Wallace, sunny days will be back soon!

One week ago, on a rainy Sunday just like this one, @thedogist brought Philly dogs together for a walk from @fsrpdogpark to the @philamuseumart steps—and despite the weather, the city showed up.

It was especially fun having @thedogist back in his hometown, personalized @philadelphiaeagles jersey and all. And really, what’s a dog walk in Philly without at least a few “Go Birds” along the way?

I like to think of Four Legged Jawns as my very local, very Philly version, but events like this are also a good reminder of how much work goes into making these communities feel effortless online. I’m constantly impressed by the people behind the accounts who bring all the content to life.

If you’ve ever wondered whether that photo I took of your pup months ago is ever going to make it onto the feed, the answer is yes! Four Legged Jawns is very much a side hustle, and my social media queue is admittedly not the most organized, so sometimes it just takes me a while. If you think I forgot your pup, please DM me!

Case in point: meet Jack, a Dalmatian mix I met wandering around Society Hill way back this summer. He’s the sweetest boy with a clever little grin and a particular talent for sniffing out whatever interesting trash the neighborhood has to offer. Happy fall, y’all! We recently visited @styer_orchard for the first time, and let’s just say it was packed for good reason. Between pumpkins, hayrides, and catching the last of apple-picking season, it was pretty much the perfect way to spend a beautiful fall day.

And of course, family outings are even better when the furry members get to come along—especially when apple picking is usually off-limits to them. From Krew the Bernese mountain dog to Maggie and Zelda the doodle sisters celebrating their birthday, it was a great time all around.

We can’t recommend it enough. Thanks @styer_orchard for such a fun day!

Sweet as pumpkin with a little bit of (Chihuahua) spice…these two are enjoying wandering through the changing leaves, enjoying the cooler Philly weather, and making the most of their favorite time of year together. Miss Mable, a Cavalier King Charles and true pandemic puppy, turned six yesterday! For a girl who loves meat, her birthday dinner was pretty much perfect: a special filet, generously shared with her human, of course.

She topped off the celebration with a pup cup from @the_igloo, making for a pretty great day all around and hopefully the start of an even better year.

If you didn’t hear, @thedogist was in town this weekend but let’s be real, the true celebrity was his perfectly posed and patient Elsa, waiting with her mom while her dad divided his attention amongst all the other pups. Elsa didn’t seem too phased by it all, smiling away on the steps of the Art Museum, living her best Rocky movie tribute. Also so good to see you, Elsa! We hope Philly *treated* you well!
