Spooky Season is sacred around here. 🖤🎃

I’m working on something longer, but I needed a little break to write something small, strange, and cozy. As always, grief snuck in—but so did healing. And a badly behaved ghost dog. And a thieving ghost crow.

Shortly after my dad died, when I needed it more than I knew, I found a book called Bohemian Magick.

That book led me to Veronica Varlow (@veronicavarlow).

Goddess. Witch. Sister.

Veronica led me to Witch Camp.

Witch Camp led to a friendship I suspect has lasted many lifetimes.

And somewhere along the way, there were crows. So many crows.

Following me. Appearing when I needed them. Making themselves impossible to ignore.

And somehow, all those strange and magical breadcrumbs led me here.
I have subscribed to Enchanted Living (@faeriemagazine ) for years, losing myself in its beautiful pages, but I never imagined that one day my own words would live among them.

But here they are.

My essay, “Spell to Carry a Dead Dad,” about my dad, grief, witchcraft, and a spell performed beside a stream in the snowy woods, appears in the Autumn Sister Witch issue of Enchanted Living.
And as if that weren’t magical enough, my words have been accompanied by the hauntingly beautiful art of @sarahjarrettart. I am so incredibly honored.

There is so much more I want to say about the strange and beautiful trail that brought me here. About grief. About friendship. About the people who find us when we need them.

About crows. About magic.
I think I will.

But for now:
The world is hard.
But there is magic in it.
I love you, Veronica. My Sister Witch. 🖤
And thank you, Enchanted Living, for giving this strange little piece a home.

I am so incredibly excited to finally share that my essay, “Spell to Carry a Dead Dad,” will appear in the Autumn issue of Enchanted Living (@faeriemagazine).

This piece is deeply personal to me. I wrote it as a spell—part grief, part witchcraft, part attempt to understand what we do with all that remains after someone we love is gone.

Life has been a little EXTRA lately, so the writing has been moving more slowly than I’d like.

But then, on a walk with my dog, I found this goddess tucked among the trees. 🌿✨

May she bring a little wild, woodland magic to your day, as she did mine. 🕯️🌿
