Works by Canadian painter and printmaker Alex Colville (1920-2013)
Colville’s work depicted the muck and mire of everyday life and yet despite its rigidity and on the surface banality, Colville managed to imbue the mundane with mysticism and complex emotion/story. His work is best described as being magic + contemporary realism.

Damien Hirst’s “Away from the flock”, 1994, currently displayed at the Tate Britain - Hirst is a controversial and contentious figure in the realm of contemporary art and beyond. His role as a provocateur was cemented in the early 1990s when he debuted a series of artworks that featured real dead animals preserved in formaldehyde. Pictured above is a lamb that has been suspended in formaldehyde in a Perspex/glass tank-the lamb appears to be caught in motion. Death is a theme often explored by Hirst who is continues to be an unpredictable force within the art world. • • • 📃 Sources to follow • • •

“Satt’s” shattered jaw - 19 September 1970, Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia

Despite this, Sattler continued to play the entire 80 minutes and managed to lead the South Sydney team to victory. Was recently reminded of the Messerschmitt BF 109 F/2 Tropical at The South African National Museum of Military History in Johannesburg. Above - Scanned excerpts and images from the Squadron / Signal Aircraft in Action Series. (Messerschmitt Bf 109 in Action Part Two, Authored by John R Beaman, jr and illustrated by Don Greer)

• Tropical Messerschmitt models differed in colour and were fit with air filters to protect the engines (Daimler Benz 12 Cylinder) and a larger supercharger intake

• The museum Messerschmitt was captured at the Marble Arch in the Libyan desert by the SAAF and served with No.3 Gruppe of Luftwaffe Jagdgeschwader 27 and features their insignia on the front, left hand side of the plane.

• Books distributed by Squadron/Signal Publications provided detailed descriptions of specific armoured vehicles, their inception and their inner workings.
