On Day Two of the Women Parliamentary Conference 2026, we turned the InFocus mic over to a young attendee. She told us she came to learn more about what women are doing across different sectors.

We loved hearing what brought her here. Hit play and hear it in her own words. 🇹🇿🎬

A special moment with someone we truly admire. It was an honour to meet Madam @bkinemo at the Women Parliamentary Conference 2026 and have a few precious minutes to interact with her. Her words of wisdom and encouragement made the moment even more meaningful. What started as a brief conversation turned into such a beautiful exchange that, honestly, we didn’t even want it to end. 😅❤️ A conversation we will always remember🥹❤️ @schola_mchome

An inspiring woman standing alongside the people she inspires📌❤️ @schola_mchome

Sometimes, you can be doing your very best and still feel like what you’re doing isn’t significant enough, especially when you find yourself in rooms with people who are more accomplished or further ahead in life.
But then someone looks at you and says, “Dear, please stop using the word ‘just.’ You are doing something meaningful, and you are enough.”🥹❤️ Thank you so much Madam @bkinemo ❤️ by @fpicglr

🇹🇿🇺🇳 GREAT LAKES WOMEN PARLIAMENTARIANS CALL FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF UN SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 1325

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, November 3, 2026

Participants attending the Women Parliamentarians’ Meeting of the Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) have called on member states to strengthen their commitment to the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).

The call was made during the meeting held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, where delegates reviewed progress, challenges and lessons learned in implementing Resolution 1325 across ICGLR member states.

During discussions on the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda, participants emphasised that achieving the objectives of Resolution 1325 is not solely the responsibility of governments but requires coordinated action, shared accountability and meaningful engagement from all stakeholders, including civil society organisations and community groups.

The women parliamentarians further underscored the importance of localising National Action Plans on Resolution 1325, ensuring that implementation extends beyond national policy frameworks to local authorities and grassroots communities.

They noted that conflicts emerge within communities and directly affect local populations, making community-level engagement essential to conflict prevention, peacebuilding and sustainable conflict resolution.

The discussions highlighted the importance of translating international commitments into practical, inclusive and community-driven initiatives that strengthen women's participation in peace and security processes throughout Africa's Great Lakes Region.

“A peaceful and developed society cannot be built while women’s voices remain unheard “

I had an opportunity to participate in the opening ceremony of the 2026 Women Parliamentary Conference held under the theme “For a peaceful and Developed Great Lakes Region”.

A meaningful reminder that women’s leadership, inclusion and participation in decision making are essential to building a better future.

🎤 SPOT ON with Ms. Petrider Paul!

At the Women’s Parliamentary Conference 2026, Madam Petrider Paul, Executive Director of Imara Leadership Initiative, raises an important concern: women are still underrepresented in the high-ranking positions where critical decisions are made.

Her message? We need more than conversations about women’s leadership. We need deliberate action to ensure women are present, represented and actively participating at the highest levels of decision-making.

Because representation should not stop at the door of leadership; women must also be part of shaping the decisions that affect their lives. 🌍✨

At the Women Parliamentary Conference 2026, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula—AU Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security—delivered a powerful reminder that women’s leadership must go beyond basic 50% quotas. It’s about taking real decision-making power to drive lasting peace. 🌍✨
Key takeaways:
👉 Beyond Quotas: Pushing past representation to absolute leadership for true regional stability.
👉 Action Over Words: History won’t remember the resolutions signed, but the actual lives protected.
👉 Resilient Leadership: Celebrating the strength of African women leading the charge.

A statement from a woman parliamentarian icon that I look up to :

“Women leaders need to move from merely holding positions to having real influence.” Holding a seat or being counted is only the first step; true leadership requires being active and influential in shaping the final decisions, particularly regarding peace, security, education, and health. ~ @tulia.ackson
