Fiscal sponsor, fundraising platform, educational resource, advice from a staff of experienced artists & creatives. We’re rooting for you!
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
appreciate you letting us nerd out about tax-deductible fundraising for artists 😤

Image description:

1. a frog-green background overlaid with bright, neon green text reading, “what the duck is fiscal sponsorship?” below, a small duckling waddles confidently into teal-blue pond water, surrounded by rocks and brush
2. a dark teal background overlaid with white text reading, “imagine a scientist working on a new, cutting-edge technology. when you picture her, she’s probably working in a research lab or at a university, right? despite all the shows and movies that suggest otherwise, scientists don’t work in their basements — they work within institutions, because it opens up funding avenues for their projects.” above, a looping video features Mickey Mouse surrounded by bubbling vials and contraptions in a basement laboratory.
3. a clay colored background is overlaid with text, “it might shock you to hear that similar, tax-exempt funding avenues exist for artists. if a project you’re working on is 1) artistic and 2) has a public benefit, you can use fiscal sponsorship to collect tax-deductible donations, apply for funding from corporations and foundations, and access nonprofit discounts.” below, a clip from the Simpsons features a smartly dressed character standing next to a fundraising bar, blinking with the number $10,700 and saying “folks, we just reached our goal of $10,700.”
4. an off-white background featuring an illustrated octopus using every arm to do something else, from art, to tax froms, to texting. it’s overlaid with the text, “who is it for? If you’re embroidering a dish towel as a gift for a friend, you (unfortunately) can't use fiscal sponsorship to get discounted needle and thread. But if you’re hosting printmaking workshops in the park, running an online poetry journal, or building an interactive light sculpture for a highway underpass, fiscal sponsorship is a way to acknowledge the public benefit of your work and access all the associated financial benefits 💸” by @fractured.atlas

📣 Big news for writers: submit your pitches for our blog, all year round! 🕯️ Themed pitches are due Nov 2, 11:59pm ET (swipe all the way to the end for a moodboard)

For years, our seasonal open calls and commissions brought so many brilliant voices to our work that we knew we needed a way to hear from more of you. So we’re making it official: our blog, Inciter Art, is now accepting rolling pitches for paid contributions ($750).

Starting now, we’ll also host a themed open call every quarter. First up is "Tending to the Hearth," a season for generosity, solidarity, and the invisible infrastructure behind creative work.

🔗 Form in bio, open to everyone, any idea, anytime

image descriptions:
1. 2 rotating circles of text, 1 pink, 1 yellow, both reading "open call." In the center is a GIF of the back of a person's head in front of an opening door, with green text around them saying "seeking writers, Nov 2 deadline."
2. a cream background with black text: "Over the years we’ve held the door ajar for our blog through seasonal & topical open calls, & commissioned writers whose work we wanted to learn more about. Starting this winter we will be accepting rolling proposals for paid contributions ($750) to our blog by launching the...Inciter Art Pitch Form!" The words "Inciter Art Pitch Form" are surrounded by multicolored callouts.

We’re hiring! Fractured Atlas is looking for a Visa Services Member Advisor, Grants Member Advisor, and Fundraising Member Advisor to join our Programs team.

If any of these sound up your alley, then we’d love to hear from you! Follow the links in our bio for the full job descriptions and application portal.

These are all full-time exempt positions with a salary of $68,016/year. The deadline for submissions is October 21, 2026 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

This position will serve as the primary reviewer and point of contact for international artist visa applications, while also interacting with our member artists on a day-to-day basis. The successful candidate will be a creative problem solver and quick learner who has an enthusiasm for the arts, is incredibly personable over the phone and email, possesses a high level of patience and understanding (particularly as it relates to explaining the same information multiple times), and is able to operate and respond in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and collected. Candidates with a work history that includes grant writing, fundraising, development, and/or customer service will likely excel. Since Fractured Atlas works virtually, this position requires strong self-motivation and will be remotely supervised by the Associate Director of Education & Engagement, Programs or Director of Partnerships & Outcomes, Programs.

it feels safe to say that some of us miiight be overcommitted. creative projects, gigs, jobs, side hustles, markets, the volunteer commitment you said yes to in 2023...when it comes to clarifying priorities and (atteeeempting to) whittle down responsibilities, does something specific come to mind? 🤔 we made a “take what resonates, leave what doesn’t” flow chart to help with exactly that.

What is one thing you want to peel off? What is one thing you hope to keep carrying?

image descriptions:
1. a taupe background with a fish postage stamp in the top right and a paid stamp over it. below white text says “come back to yourself: an invitation”
2. an ocean waves background with black text overlaid: “Have you been caught in the riptide of productivity culture? Stuck in an infinite doomscroll? Now’s the time to come back to every part of yourself: artist, worker, child, caretaker, rebel, fighter. Parts we can often leave by the wayside in the name of practicality or duty.”
3. a Monet painting two people overlooking sailboats from a hill near the ocean. overlaid is text “when your self is never finished: This summer I began reading Light by Eva Figes, described in Dr. Rebecca Mark’s Substack as “essentially an Impressionist painting in the form of a 150-page novella. Light interplayed with Impressionism, and the broader world of painting and visual art, through both subject and style. The subject: a day in the life of Claude Monet and the people orbiting him. The style is harder to define, and I can’t help drawing a parallel. You may know exactly what “yourself” is composed of. Coming back to it might not be as easy.”
4. a green background with a GIF at the top right of an illustrated vinyl turntable playing. lime green text overlaid reads “coming back to yourself when you’re always changing: When I first sat down to write this, the sun was out and a light breeze provided a nice complement, and for about three minutes everything was perfect until a conversation about AI from the next table began to encroach. I did what most people do nowadays: plugged my ears and tried to tune out the noise with new noise. Earlier versions of me who might have hit play on Refused (punk) or Ornette Coleman (jazz) would’ve been surprised to see 40-year old me opting for Ernest Hood’s Neighborhoods, a 1975 album that suffused zither and synthesizer melodies with field recordings of Hood’s native Portland, Oregon. The seemingly unavoidable conversation about AI slowly evaporated, replaced by the distant voices of children buying ice cream at the corner store.” by @fractured.atlas

just like in dating, not every grant opportunity is going to be the right fit for you, and that's actually a good thing to know before you tie yourself in knots trying to fit into a relationship that isn't meant to be... um, we mean working on your application 💌

image descriptions:
1. pink background with a GIF of a man from Love Island saying “I can see her being my girlfriend, dude.” overlaid, white text says “Grant Compatibility: Ways to Know if an Opportunity Is the Right Fit” with multicolored stars + circles at the top right.
2. orange background with a GIF of a woman from Love Island shaking her head saying “uh uh, I can’t do that.” to her left are 3 orange circles. below is the text: "Core Values: Does the funder typically fund work like yours, and what funding priorities do they have? If you have questions about your eligibility, you should always reach out to the funder! There’s a whole section in our Grant Toolkit about how to prepare for funder conversations.”
3. dark green background with yellow + lime green circles surrounding text “where you’re at in life” and below yellow text: “Does the funder fund artists or art groups at your career stage? If you’re an early-career artist, you want to look for grants that specifically work with early-career artists. If you and your cooperative have been operating for 5+ years, have an established operating budget, and a strong fundraising history, you want to look for funders that are ready to dive in deep with you.” below is a GIF from Love Island of a woman shrugging humorously and saying “now I’m single!”
4. green background with a GIF of a woman from Love Island gleefully saying “the tea’s getting hotter and hotter.” pink polka dots to her right. below in black text reads “Telling Your Story: Can you give a clear picture of your upcoming work and how this funding fits into the picture? Funders are looking not only for a compelling story around the work, but also evidence that you have a clear-eyed understanding of how the work will happen. Focus on answering their questions directly, explaining why your work matters in this moment, and providing clear details of how you plan to make it come to life!” by @fractured.atlas
