✨Count on Me (Bae’s of Bayside) - Review✨

4🌟🌟🌟🌟

DK and Rayne are everything I wanted in main characters: flawed, authentic, and deeply human.

The story being a plus size romance surrounding a mayor campaign, made for such a unique plot! And with one of my missions being to try to read more romances that centre diverse body types, this did this perfectly!

I loved DK’s portrayal as a quietly strong, dependable man who isn’t afraid to be vulnerable. Watching his journey unfold was one of my favourite parts of the book. Rayne was equally compelling. As a curvy woman living with vitiligo, she faces challenges that are often reduced to surface level stereotypes, but Carron gives her so much depth and resilience. Rather than defining her by those struggles, Rayne is confident, compassionate, and incredibly empowering. She’s the kind of heroine I love seeing represented. The Campaign and all its palaver just reinforces this.

I also enjoyed the glimpses of cousin Lot (FMC from book 1) and the wider community that helped shape Rayne into the woman she is. One thing I particularly appreciated was the decision to give Rayne a healthy, loving relationship with her father instead of portraying her as incomplete without her mother. There’s nothing wrong with that storyline, but this was a refreshing representation of a strong single father.

The story is definitely spicy🌶️🌶️🌶️ something Ms. Carron never shies away from but the intimate scenes always serve the relationship, and the overall narrative rather than overshadowing it. They enhance the emotional connection between the characters instead of existing purely for shock value, but some of those chapters. BOYYYYY 🥵🥵🥵

My only small wish is that we’d had a little more time to see DK and Rayne simply enjoy being together without the weight of everything standing in their way.

Overall, Count on Me is an emotional, heartfelt, and wonderfully romantic read with memorable characters, meaningful representation, plenty of chemistry, and a love story that lingers long after the final page.

4.5⭐️ A moving story, with so much purpose interwoven into it. Temi is a woman that will stay with me for all she did and for all she represents.

The writing and storytelling was so great and the bouncing between present and past, although at first confusing all made sense in the end. The way love is shown in so many ways through this book was probably my favourite part along with the courage women have within this book to be big, dream big and navigate life’s challenges. The story highlights how important our roots are in forming us and how history shapes us and for that I love the story even more.
