Hebru Brantleyfrom Eat Crap King, Vertical Gallery, 2017The show put Basquiat and Warhol inside a single two-dimensional frame and let the tension sit there: the institution and the outsider, the one who got absorbed by the art world and the one who moved through it on his own terms until the end. Power, race, the real shape of a celebrity friendship. Brantley reading his own path through Basquiat’s.For a work built on that contrast, we framed it as a contrast. A clean white floater gives the canvas air and separation, and set just inside it, an ornate gold leaf double frame, all old-world gilt and pattern against the raw painted surface. Two vocabularies in one object, which is the argument the piece is already making. by @framechicago

Hebru Brantley“Finally Some Alone Time” · 27/155Archival print on cotton rag, 32” x 29”Flyboy and Lil Mama on a rocket, cutting through a night sky thick with smoke and stars. Brantley’s characters have always carried more than they let on: goggles pulled down, faces set, kids given room to move through a world that doesn’t always make room for them. The framing decision here was to not stop at the edge of the paper. We hand painted the liner so the smoke and sky keep going past the artwork’s border, pulling the clouds outward until the piece feels bigger than its dimensions. The magenta profile does what magenta does, which is refuse to be ignored, and picks up the pink of the sweatshirt on its way. by @framechicago

The Birmingham Black Barons were more than a baseball team. They represented excellence, resilience, and a chapter of American history that deserves to be remembered and celebrated. When the collector of this remarkable work by @truthofstrength shared the vision for the framing, we knew the frame had to become part of the story. The request was to honor not only the Birmingham Black Barons, but the legacy of the Negro Leagues as a whole. Every logo surrounding the artwork was carefully hand painted, representing teams whose players transformed the game while overcoming barriers that kept them from receiving the recognition they deserved.A young Willie Mays wore a Birmingham Black Barons uniform in 1948. Satchel Paige pitched for the club from 1927 through 1930. Their names are legendary, but they represent a much larger community of extraordinary athletes whose contributions continue to shape baseball today.Custom framing has the power to preserve more than artwork. It can preserve history, spark conversation, and deepen our appreciation for the stories artists choose to tell.Thank you to the collector for trusting us with this vision, and to @truthofstrength for creating The Jewel of the South, a powerful tribute to dignity, memory, community, and the enduring legacy of the Negro Leagues.Every logo. Every brushstroke. Painted by hand. by @framechicago

“Identity is not a destination you reach, but a fire you carry from house to house, wondering which hearth will finally feel like its own.” — Abhay SehgalA veiled bride in crimson and gold, surrounded by peacocks, elephants, and a field of Persian carpet motif worked by hand until figure and ground become one. Abhay the surface layer by layer, texture on texture, the kind of canvas that keeps giving the longer you stand with it.We framed it to match that intensity. An ornate gold profile with hand-detailed scrollwork and a wide linen liner, giving the work room to breathe before the eye meets the molding and letting the gold echo the metallic thread in her veil and bangles. by @framechicago

Sayre Gomez, “Da Vinci Staircase,” 2024. Edition of 50, artist’s proof.Sayre Gomez is an LA painter (b. Chicago, 1982) who has built a serious reputation turning the overlooked edges of Los Angeles into something cinematic. Working from photographs and airbrushing in hyperreal detail, he paints storefronts, signage, sunsets, and the kind of weathered infrastructure most people walk past. His work has shown internationally and sits in major collections, and the appeal is right here: a rusted exterior staircase against a dusk sky, the blue fading down to a thin band of orange at the rooftops. Every weld and water stain rendered like a photograph, all of it in that flat, end-of-day California light. The framing is about protection and presentation as much as restraint. We floated the print to show the full sheet and the signed border, set it deep in the frame so the work sits back behind glass with room to breathe, and used museum glass and archival materials throughout so nothing touching the paper will harm it over time. A clean white box to keep all the focus on that sky. Simple on the surface, built to last underneath. @_sayre_gomez_ by @framechicago

Max Sansing, “The Best Day of My Life,” 2026. 9-color hand-pulled screen print, edition of 40, 16 x 16 in.Buddy Guy in profile, rendered in Sansing’s signature heat: molten orange and red against a deep blue collar that bleeds into green. The print nods to his cameo in “Sinners,” where he plays the older Sammie. A Chicago legend by a Chicago artist.POPINK Editions’ first release back after a hiatus, and they came back with a 9-color hand-pulled job. Nine separate screens, nine passes. The kind of print run that rewards looking close. Here’s what we saw: Sansing fades that collar from blue to green. So we hand-painted the liner to match, building the gradient by hand so it carries the color out from the art instead of stopping it. Dark green fabric mat, chrome woodgrain frame. @maxsansing @popinked by @framechicago

Kayla Mahaffey, “Rekindle,” 2026. Archival print, edition of 100, 30 x 30 in.A girl mid-strike, flowers and fire on one side, a quiet bonsai on the other. The reds and pinks run hot, the blues cool it down, and that stare holds you across the room.Deckle-edged on Entrada paper, we floated it to keep the torn edge showing and hand-painted the extension to match the work. Hand-carved white frame. @kaylamay_art by @framechicago

Chris Levine, from his 2004 portrait sittings with Queen Elizabeth II. A direct gaze, the George IV diadem, the unmistakable Levine treatment of light and presence. Our job was to honor it. Hand-finished silver leaf outer with a custom teal liner, painted in-house to pull the exact tone from the print. Frame Chicago exclusive.@chrislevine by @framechicago

Patrick Martinez Fight the PowerRooted in the visual language of neon and the cultural pulse of Los Angeles, Patrick Martinez’s work bridges text, symbolism, and social commentary. Drawing from his deep connection to Hip Hop, graffiti, and the overlooked rhythms of everyday life, Martinez transforms familiar signage into powerful statements that confront and reflect contemporary realities. This piece is elevated by a custom Frame Chicago design, featuring a richly textured black frame with hand-painted rose detailing that echoes the neon motif within the work. The layered matting, with its bold red accent, enhances the vibrancy of the composition while creating depth that mirrors the intensity of the message. A true Frame Chicago exclusive, the frame becomes an extension of the artwork itself. by @framechicago
