I have many beautiful fall photos to share, but this season has gotten a little busy lately. In the meantime, enjoy these moody captures from the drive between Creede and Lake City, CO.

The way the Rio Grande River cuts through the countryside was absolutely gorgeous and reminded me a little of Crested Butte (if you know, you know). Despite all the rain, the clouds put on quite a show. by @framesfromthetrail

Lake City was a new-to-me Colorado town, so I decided to start my road trip through this area. I’m already looking forward to going back.

The weather wasn’t exactly on my side for much of this trip (lots of rain), but honestly, I think it made for some neat photos. The low-hanging clouds and moody skies gave the San Juans a completely different feel, while the vibrant yellows and natural colors of the mountains still managed to shine through.

I think a little moody weather just feels right with fall…cozy, quiet, and a little more atmospheric. taken in Lake City, Colorado by @framesfromthetrail

I’m heading out tomorrow for a few days of chasing fall colors, so I figured it was time for a little throwback to some of last year’s fall adventures.

The first photo was taken right in downtown Crested Butte. You always hear that Colorado fall color is mostly just yellow, and then you stumble across something like this. Definitely a fun surprise.

I’ll be on the lookout for more of those unexpected colors and unique little finds this year. Mostly I’m just excited to get outside, explore, and do a little fall road tripping. 🍁🚙 taken in Crested Butte, Colorado by @framesfromthetrail

A little throwback while I finalize this year’s Colorado fall adventures. 🍂

Ohio Pass was one of my favorite road trip stops last year—and I’m still thinking about these views. Where should I explore this fall?

Peak fall color has officially arrived in Summit County. 🍂

Today I hiked Rainbow Lake via the Peaks Trail. This trail is only 1.6 miles and is honestly more of a scenic walk than a hike, but it’s a beautiful one.

There’s still some green mixed in, but with rain and wind in the forecast, I don’t think the color is going to get much better than it is right now.

So if you’ve been thinking about a little leaf peeping in the Dillon, Frisco or Breckenridge area, this weekend (and the few days immediately after) is your window. 🍁

I drove up to Breckenridge last weekend to leaf peep. Despite the drought this year, I found some very vibrant colors. These photos were all taken along various sections of Boreas pass. This is my favorite time of year, so you will find many more fall photos on this feed soon. 🍁 taken in Breckenridge, Colorado by @framesfromthetrail

I wanted to start this account as a place to share my landscape work, create content that inspires me, and connect with other people who enjoy this same space.

I first thought about creating a new account when I was visiting Silverton, Colorado and found myself in a lineup with a bunch of other photographers all photographing this same “Instagram famous” cabin. We started chatting, and someone asked if I had an Instagram account. I said yes—but explained that the landscape photos I was taking were just for fun because I’m primarily a portrait photographer.

And honestly, that’s still true. I’m not trying to become a full time landscape photographer and know I can still learn a lot. But I’ve taken a lot of photos over these past years that I’m genuinely proud of, and I wanted a place to share them. More than anything, I think this page will eventually become a collection of memories and places I can look back on.

So, two years later, this cabin finally makes an appearance online. 🙂 During my most recent trip to the San Juan Mountains, I visited it again..and it looks quite a bit different in summer. Which version do you prefer - winter or summer? ☀️❄️ taken in Silverton, Colorado by @framesfromthetrail

Time is a thief. While looking back through photos from this summer and years past, I realized it had been three years since I last hiked to Mills Lake. My first visit was in the winter of 2023 with @focusinwithmolly, and I was captivated by the beauty of the lake partially covered in snow. I loved the last photo from that hike so much that I even have a canvas print of it hanging in my apartment.

I decided to hike Mills Lake again this summer, mostly because I had never experienced the hike in the warmer months (when most people go hiking in RMNP 🙃). It felt like an entirely different place — lush, green… almost like a fairy wonderland.

Mills Lake and the Glacier Gorge Trailhead are beautiful in every season, but I’d especially recommend this hike for fall. I noticed so many aspens lining the trail on the way up, and they should be changing soon (if they haven’t started already). taken in Mills Lake - Rocky Mountain National Park by @framesfromthetrail

To kick off this account, I thought I’d share some photos from a hike I did earlier this summer in the San Juan Mountains.

Ice Lake and Island Lake had been on my Colorado bucket list ever since I moved here and learned of this hike, and somehow it took me four years to finally check this one off the list.

At just over 8 miles with around 2,600 feet of elevation gain, this was easily the hardest hike I’ve done in my life. There were definitely a few moments when I questioned my life choices. 😂 But I survived & the views at the top made every step worth it. ♥️ taken in Ice Lake Basin, Silverton Co by @framesfromthetrail
