For the thousandth time, I say: thank God for giving me my grandmother. She is my favorite person in the whole world. I don’t like making distinctions or showing favouritism toward people or my family. But I feel so much love—as if I were born into the right family. I love her so much and wish she would live to be a hundred or more, purely out of selfishness, love, and how much I need her. She is the person I love most, my heart feels like it’s bursting. My paternal grandmother is everything good in this world, and I would defend her against anyone or anything—just as I always do; even if she committed a crime, I would stand by her (I don’t care what anyone says). I love her. Bearing the name of the sweet mother of Jesus. Just like her. My angel. My best friend. My grandmother. The love of my life.

Honestly, the person I’ve been closest to in my entire life, aside from my dear dad is my grandmother. I know with absolute certainty – and we’ve talked about it many times – that she would give her life for me, just as I would for her. I would rather go before she does. If I could give her some of my youth and years of life so she could continue being the fundamental pillar of our family, I would do it.

When I publish my first book, you will be the first – and perhaps the only – person I dedicate it to, because you have taught me everything I know; you have always believed in me and encouraged me toward everything good and every virtue, and thanks to you, I am the woman I am today. I am not perfect, and neither are you, but I believe you are the greatest definition of love I know. I love you, and I will love you forever. You are the one who has shared so much with me—things only the two of us know—the laughter, the tears, the journeys. And you always tell me: “Hurry up and get that book out, because I won’t be around forever; you have a gift for writing.” And I, through tears and all the love I feel, simply nod and smile.
