Like so many Black women, some of my oldest grief lives in my hair. This week, Meg turned toward this very tender part of me with an extraordinary act of devotion. She walked to the beauty supply store, and purchased every single product, tool, and accessory the sales associate recommended. Then, over the course of 40 hours, she carefully wove 110 knotless braids into my hair. She stopped only to cook our meals, or to rest when I eventually started falling asleep.

I am so proud of my first ever set of braids. I feel pretty, and wish I could show these photos to little Fran. As for my girlfriend? She continues to outdo herself. I mean LOOK at those clean parts! I genuinely hope that every woman gets to experience being loved like this. @meg_moon hallelujah!!! by @francescamarante

To call her a dream come true would be inaccurate; I never thought to dream this big. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have something in my life that is so unbelievably romantic. We have built a relationship that is liberating and gentle, sexy and empowering, dreamy and electric. God, it’s so FUN being Meg’s partner! Every morning I wake up thinking I could not possibly love this woman more, only to fall asleep humbled by how utterly wrong I was.
