Summer En plein air

Painting in the Italian Alps is always one of my Summer pleasures. These are oils on board 36 x 45cm. They came from a very joyful state and the 1st one is probably my favourite. I shall be posting some more. The light is constantly changing and creating completely different landscapes...this is a very good life lesson and you just have to go with it.

Koi with Teahouse Reflection

I have worked on a series of paintings that were
inspired by my visit to Japan last year. Not prepared to let them all out yet, it feels good to not post everything. How do other artists feel about the constant pressure of feeding bots ? - have tried to opt out). This is quite big, about 115 x 75cms and the scale is very important for the colour variations and a sense of looking at a reflective surface. The fish were so graceful and the water was so clear. A moment of serenity and joy at this scene of dancing reflections and fish. Quiet contemplation is something strongly missing right now. This is an oil on canvas.

In Heaven

Wanted to share my joy as I am back painting in the woods of northern Italy where my family originates from. So wonderful to feel grounded and in the moment with a curious bird and red squirrels for company.
I sometimes feel so helpless in a World run by money, greed and power but our lives are short and we can choose to see beauty.
I have not been posting as it has not felt right...being rewarded for quantity and punished for not feeding IG regularly🤷
Feeling Happy and reminding myself what choices I have. Exploring through direct observation and creating for oneself leads to magic.

Japanese Maple

First of all I wanted to express my gratitude to David Hockney for being such a positive and inspiring force in the art world. A gracious man and a good example of courage and experimentation.
This is an oil painting on canvas, a follow up from my previuos acrylic. The colours are stronger than I usually use and I struggled to let them be (I came across the tree in the early evening, Autumn and the maple was lit by artificial light giving a startling effect). I went and looked at Hockney's colours and this enboldened me. Thank you Hockney, artists like you bring joy back into the process and put everything into question, as it should be🙏 💕
The painting is 1m x 70cms and It does make me smile everytime I catch sight of it in my studio.

Waterfall (Cascate Basse)
Oil on canvas. This is a continuation of looking at water and a development of the previous drawing. Summer has come to London so sending you and others in a heatwave a refreshing waterfall😉 I have added pictures of details, I think some of these could stand alone.

Waterfall Study
Looking at waterfalls and water in general, it seems to offer a lot of scope when it comes to markmaking. This is another waterfall in Northern Italy where my family originates from. An area dear to my heart. I could hear the noise of it and feel the spray as I was painting😂

Waterfall Study
I have been looking at Chinese paintings and love some of the very sensitive markmaking. I was also inspired by the recent Hurvin Anderson exhibition and his beautiful mark making and effects. Enjoyed a day trying to find my way into this image. Have included a couple of details.

Japanese Maple Study

This is an acrylic on paper 100 x 70cms study, wish I had used better quality paper. Went to Japan in November and have fallen in love with the beautiful Autumn colours. I have started an oil of the same subject. Acrylics seem to dry darker and mix very differently to oils with the advantage they dry quickly so great for a study. I hope it conveys some of the joy I felt in the moment.
Happy Valentine's❤️

Dear Frida
This was painted as a visual letter, it is part of a series I started to express my feelings towards some of the great female artists.
The gold leaf is placed near her womb to depict how despite not having children she has given us her creativity and so has given birth to something precious, she is also depicted as a tree which is ageless and it's roots travel great distances, it is about the seen and unseen. Ivy is a symbol of enduring love, eternity and resilience. The space is divided into triangles and is about strength, stability and direction. There are more layers of meaning, as mentioned it is a visual letter.
This will be part of the 'Lust For Life' exhibition with @the.artists.pool
Please see my previous post.
Would love to meet you at the preview🥂☺️

After the acrylic study on paper I have now painted this in oils and am quite pleased with the luminosity and complementary colour combination. Looking at the mark making and trying different possibities. These days I do not seem to be reaching all my followers... Wishing you all a happy New Painting Year🥂🎨.
