🌊TUSSEN WAL EN SCHIP 🌊
I’m very happy to have been working on @sven_peetoom & @juliettedominicus upcoming documentary “Tussen wal en Schip”. A beautiful and important movie with conversations between grandparents and grandchildren about the colonial past, immigration and identity. The theme of the movie naturally speaks to me as my grandfather also was one out of many who arrived at the dock in Amsterdam back in 1955 after one month at sea, traveling from Indonesia to The Netherlands. The documentary will be premiered during @nederlandsfilmfestival this Sunday! It was such a great collab with Sven and Juliette, happy we synced so well in vision and sound concepts and thanks for the trust💓
I had a great time scoring for this one, creating layers and experimental sounds with my little harmonium and my prophet 8 💕 And the cherry on top was when @emir.cello added his beautiful cello layers!

Also big ups to Mark Glynne for the great sound design!

Saaaad that I can’t be there on the premiere this week but I’m so happy to have been working on this production, it truly was a special experience. You rock @sven_peetoom & @juliettedominicus 💕

Currently working on new music and I’m so thrilled ✨Taking my time, I’ll let it grow and see which direction it goes…I have so many melodies and things I want to say, waiting to become a song.

I also started off 2026 with finishing up my new website! With the help from @sachaverheij who took the photos in the dunes and helped me with layout and explaining how Wordpress works haha 🙃 thank you Sach!!

Exclusively on bandcamp we’re releasing the original soundtrack for “Tussen Wal en Schip - Geruisloos Indisch”

For this documentary I wanted to create a maritime feeling, with instruments that could capture a big dynamic spann, to make the compositions feel vivid and human. Since the Indo community has a strong connection to boats and the ocean because of the past migration, was this something I wanted to make hearable in the music. Which instruments could be associated to waves, boats, hybridity, the ocean? For me that became the harmonium, the cello – played by Alfian Emir Adytia, kendang played by Wulan Dumatubun, my analogue synthesizer, my gamelan sound pack from Native Instruments topped with field recordings from Indonesia.

Thank you for the trust and another special collaboration @sven_peetoom and @juliettedominicus ❤️

MUSIC RELEASE!

The original soundtrack from the documentary ”Zorgdragers” - exclusively on #bandcamp 💛 link in bio!

It was a true pleasure to create the soundtrack for Juliette Dominicus ”Zorgdragers” - a documentary that breaks the silence about mental health among psychiatrists/ healthcare professionals. ”Through the lens of the sisterly relationship between Juliette and her sister Marcia, an intimate portrait unfolds of a group of healthcare professionals who dare to admit what many cannot: that they too, need help.”

Thank you Juliette for yet again a fantastic collaboration filled with trust and inspiration, love working with you! ☺️
Also many thanks to Naomi Wills, the awesome producer at Tangerine Tree 🌳

And of course to Mike Verlaan (aka OpenMike), featured on 4 of the 7 tracks on hand drum, specially requested from Juliette ☺️ It was a fun process, blending hand drum samples and electronic textures. In the ending track ”The Wounded Healer” we let the hand drum bloom out and float freely 🍃

Many thanks also to Johannes Bergil and Alfian Adytia for letting me use a few samples of theirs on cello and saxophone. Small details but it was the cherry on top 🍒

And nicely done with the Sound Design for the docu, Coen Bruins!

Wearing My Roots | Spoken Word EP
➡️ coming to you Friday 18 July!

Wauw, I can’t believe it’s happening. Three years ago a mutual friend introduced us to each other, because we were both looking for our roots. I am so grateful to have you in my life, @francescavincentie. After two years of talking, listening to your album about your family, visiting Indonesia together, setting up an foundation @bersamacollective together with. @_joardi and learning to open conversations about difficult topics: it is finally here, my research into my roots.

I could not have done it without the Democracy Fellowship from @humanityaction, the spoken word sessions from @poetrycircle, the musical talents from @emir.cello and @francescavincentie, the creative artwork from @floorrehbach, the belief in my writing from @liangdebeer, the love and support from @spisters and those who know I’m grateful for.

Not posting so much nowadays but still ~out there~ living the freelancer life🫡 Here’s a lil’ recap of some of my work so far in 2025!🐬☺️

•Started this year with some exciting foley recordings together with @ysfoley.poolz at @postavermaas ! With among others - ”The Birthday Party” starring Willem Dafoe(!) and a super nice kids show named ”Freek Tapes”. I love being behind the mix table and record Yoricks all creative ideas!

•Very happy to work with @juliettedominicus again on her upcoming documentary ”Zorgdragers”. With a highly important topic - stigmas around mental health. Together we came up with a concept for the composition which I later worked out and recorded with @0penmike0 on hang drum! Synthesizers, hangdrum and samples from recordings with @emir.cello and @johannesbergil makes the music and the docu will release somewhere after summer 🦋

•Other great news - Tussen Wall en Schip- documentary by the power-duo @sven_peetoom and @juliettedominicus will finally start to be screened in cinemas from June on! I’m very happy to have made the composition for it featuring @emir.cello , on cello. It’s a documentary that highlights the importance of exchange between generations, about roots and identity which really grasps your heart. With among others @benjamin.caton 🫶🏽 Be sure not to miss it 🇮🇩 I’m also thinking about releasing the music on bandcamp!

•And this week I’m finishing up @sachaverheij ‘s upcoming Spoken Word album! It’s been so special to follow Sacha’s path in exploring her roots from Indonesia, Maluku and Suriname. Together with @emir.cello we’ve been working the three of us on tracks combining poetry, music and interviews with Sacha’s family members. Will also be released somewhere soon! Proud of you Sachimi!!😚

•The music I made for the documentary ”Liefde in procedure” last year featuring Lamin Kuyateh on Kora, can be seen on NPO2 on the 13th of May! Made by the amazing Moos and @_laurahuygen 🙌🏽 We get to follow the couple Fams and Kelly (who also co-produced the docu) and the reality of an asylum process and how it impacts their relationship.

The Indonesian Dialogues is a multidisciplinary art project that brings together postcolonial descendants from the Netherlands, Indonesia, and Switzerland—Sebastian Gisi, Eddie Hara, Linda Mayasari, Sven Peetoom (@sven_peetoom), and Francesca Vincentie (@francescavincentie) —in an artistic exploration of colonialism, both past and present. This performance blends video, music, and live acts. While many films, books, and documentaries cover this history, they often present it from a Western perspective. The Indonesian Dialogues flips the script, highlighting untold stories from the oral histories of Indonesians—stories rarely found in traditional history books. But how can a Western collective authentically capture these voices? Come find out!

Hoe blijft onze geschiedenis ons heden beïnvloeden? Met dit kunstproject zoeken makers uit Nederland, Zwitserland en Indonesië met een postkoloniale familiegeschiedenis antwoorden op vragen rondom kolonialisme, in het verleden en heden.

𝗠𝗲𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼, 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 & 𝗺𝘂𝘇𝗶𝗲𝗸!

Er verschijnen veel documentaires, exposities, films, boeken en toneelstukken over deze geschiedenis, al zijn de meeste vanuit een westers gezichtspunt gemaakt. In The Indonesian Dialogues focussen de makers zich op de ‘oral history’ van Indonesiërs, verhalen die je doorgaans niet in geschiedenisboeken tegenkomt. Maar hoe doe je dat, als westers maakcollectief?

We’re in a museum! 📽️🖼️ 💫🎧After two sold out performances of our piece The Indonesian Dialogues in @museumderkulturenbasel we build up an installation with videos, music and illustrations which will stay there for the next week.

It was lovely to live and perform in the museum and encounter such an interested crowd and kind staff. Also many thanks for the Indonesian Ambassador (@indonesiainbern) for visiting our show already for the second time!

….”Vandaag is de dag waar we stilstaan bij het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en waar we alle slachtoffers van de gruwelijke tijden van oorlog en bezetting herdenken. We houden de herinneringen aan onze voorouders levend door samen te komen, door hun nalatenschap en onze verhalen te delen.

Ik hoor mezelf en anderen zeggen dat we dit “nooit meer mogen laten gebeuren”. Dat ‘We moeten leren van het verleden’. Maar hoewel deze specifieke gebeurtenissen eindigden, is het cruciaal om te erkennen dat kolonialisme, oorlog en bezetting niet verdween in 1945. En deze problemen bestaan nog steeds.

Ik denk dat we ons moeten afvragen waar kolonialisme vandaag de dag aanwezig is. Waar zien we conflicten in de wereld? Zou het kunnen dat er een verband is tussen de echo’s van oorlog uit het verleden en de voortdurende oorlogsellende in onze huidige tijd? Dat sommige destructieve structuren ons in hun greep blijven houden.

De echo’s van oorlog uit het verleden die we collectief ervaren - is dat niet ook het roepen om hulp van mensen die op dit moment oorlog en geweld ervaren? Mensen die hun traumatische ervaringen generaties lang zullen doorgeven?
Die hun eigen ervaringen zullen proberen te begrijpen en die hun doden zullen herdenken, net zoals wij dat vandaag doen? Als ze het geluk hebben om vandaag te overleven...”

Vandaag trad onze @francescavincentie in de Grote Kerk bij de Herdenking 15 augustus 1945 op. Ze verweef haar speech met haar muziek, precies wat het DNA van Bersama Collective betreft.

💬 “Erbij horen gaat niet over landsgrenzen. Erbij horen gaat voor mij over gemeenschap en erfgoed. Het gaat over hoe je identiteit samen met anderen werd en wordt gevormd. De taal, de cultuur, de manier waarop je jezelf en je eigen ervaringen positioneert, de verhalen die door onze voorouders zijn doorgegeven. Het gaat over waar je gedijt - waar je naar streeft en met wie.”
