Franeva grew up in Seattle playing mandolin and listening to her father’s records. By her mid-teens she was at concerts and raves. By her twenties she was in Vancouver DJing in a female duo, producing industrial acid techno in a shared flat with CDJs bought from saved up money. Then a tarot card flew out of a pile at a girls night and everything changed. Nine months after a friend said she saw Berlin clearly, Franeva was on a plane. In this conversation she talks about what the city gave her, the sound she found once she arrived, a music video made fresh out of a breakup, a radio show built on astrocartography and why swans feel like the closest visual language she has for what she is trying to do with music.
