RUMOER

Rumoer is a Dutch word I like.
Not so easy to translate, that makes it interesting and rich.

The English dictionary gives me:
noise, row, uproar
Sophie Hassfurther with whom I form the trio RUMOER,
came up with these words in German:
Aufregung, Getöse
It can happen in a school classroom, but also with a larger impact.

The Dutch writer Florette Dijkstra wrote a book with short stories about
thinkers, writers, artists.
She questions:
“What happens if someone makes art / an artwork?”
“Is this new or has it a relation with something old?”
“Why are people making art?”
Her answer is I think ‘Rumoer’

One of the people she writes about is the photographer Berenice Abbott, who basically saved the archive of photos of Eugène Atget. Both their work is in the large museums and well known now (within a certain bubble of course as most of the things, knowledge..).

Art is there to stir and to provoke reflection and hopefully inspiration.

In the video: snippet of our concert in Porgy & Bess Vienna Sept 2026
RUMOER: Frank Gratkowski, Sophie Hassfurther, Fie Schouten
