The out of the box club experience in Utrecht.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi all, hope you’re well. Sadly, we have to let you know Freaky Dancing is no more. Over the past year and a half, we have tried to create a new shape for Freaky Dancing that was equally exciting but also a bit more stable and future-proof. Throughout this process, it became clear to us that Freaky Dancing currently isn’t feasible in the way we envision it. We look back proudly on five boundary-pushing editions at WAS., unforgettable experiences featuring artists from closeby and far away, established and brand new, from a wide range of disciplines. First and foremost, we would like to thank these artists for placing their trust in Freaky Dancing, working with us to create something new, and for becoming comrades in a shared vision. To our team, from graphic designers to technicians and from stage managers to bartenders, thank you for making Freaky Dancing what it became. We never took the easiest route and we were never satisfied doing the same thing twice. We emphasised every last detail and we always did it ourselves. We’d also like to thank the many local partners we were able to work together with over the years. Finally, to you, our visitors. Since the beginning, energy has always been at the core of Freaky Dancing, the driving force behind all our decisions. The way you welcomed Freaky Dancing and shared your energy with us during the editions has astonished us and has been what propelled this project forward. We hope some of that energy will live on in Utrecht’s nightlife. Thank you, see you around. Pic by @36framez. by @freakydancing

Remember these lot? With their euphoric blend of rave, electro and punk, @vlure.gla made an instant impact at Freaky Dancing’s second edition back in 2022. We’re so excited to welcome these Glaswegian geezers back to Utrecht for a sweaty show at @acu.nl on November 5th, celebrating the release of their long-awaited debut album ESCALATE. In their own words: “It’s for Glasgow. It’s for you, and your mates. It’s for every mad night and every moment when time stood still. Hold it close. Let it escalate.” ⚔️ Tickets are now on sale through ekko.nl/event/vlure/. Pics by @j.c.ru. taken in ACU by @freakydancing

We’ve only just recovered from seeing @courtneymayrobertson’s HUNTER - OFF RECORD!!! at Freaky Dancing last month. Such a thrilling, scary and profound performance, it was a pleasure to be able to host it and show it to you. We can’t thank Courtney, her team and our team enough for making this happen and transforming this singular theatre piece into a tailor-made club version. If you’re into seeing things that you’ve never seen before, keep an eye on Courtney in the future. Pics by @_indypicture_. taken in WAS. by @freakydancing

We couldn’t have wished for a more special opening to Freaky Dancing than @ypsil_lon’s @beforeafter.ceremony, a profound quest into the transformative qualities of techno, featuring @jordanachiano and @jeanpaulpaula. If you’re eager to experience it again or if you missed out, grab your chance at a joint edition of Vincent op Vrijdag by @vangoghmuseum and @stedelijkmuseum tomorrow night. This is truly something singular! ✨ Pics by @_indypicture_. taken in WAS. by @freakydancing

It was a pleasure and privilege to welcome @jehnnybeth at our latest edition in @was.utrecht. Never imagined we would hear a Korn track at Freaky Dancing, but it definitely was one of the highlights of the night. Be sure to check out Jehnny’s brand new single Broken Rib by the way, the lead single of her forthcoming solo album You Heartbreaker, You. 💔 Pics by @36framez taken in WAS. by @freakydancing

Tomorrow we’re gonna dance! 🔥 we can’t wait! We want to provide a free open-minded space, where our visitors, employees and artists feel at home. That means we don’t tolerate any form of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or other forms of discrimination. Please be mindful of your phone and camera use on the dancefloor and respect the privacy of your fellow visitors. If you or any of your friends feel unsafe or experience any unwanted behavior, please notify our staff. Let us know, also if you’re not 100% sure. You can report to us at any time during the night: at the bar, entrance or security. At Freaky Dancing, disciplines and artforms collide to create something new. In the space you will find a lot of flashing lights and smoke. If the visuals are too intense, please leave the room for a minute and give your brain some rest. We will do anything we can to provide a safer space. But we also need you, the visitor, to keep an eye on your surroundings. If anybody seems lost, dizzy or out of place, ask them if they feel alright. Let’s create a nice, safe environment together for everyone. Your safety, freedom and enjoyment comes first. Let’s go freaky tomorrow!! ✨ Tickets via link in bio. taken in WAS. by @freakydancing

Only 2 days left until Freaky Dancing! We asked @elisedeleede (punk performer @consensual__peggy & program maker @springutrecht) why she’s excited for this Saturday at @was.utrecht: “As a theater kid and punk performer I’m super excited to see performance art, live concerts, music and dancing coming together in one night. Whenever you enter a new space you’ll feel surprised by a totally different vibe and experience — the transitions are magical. Also, can we talk about the name? I love the invitation to be freaky and let go!” Can’t wait to share the night with you, @elisedeleede! 🖤 See you at this Saturday! Let’s get freaky.
