I was invited to do a short presentation for @keunehaircosmetics about my career as a hair artist and colorist in the @straatmuseum. The event was to launch their new product, The Color Muse.

Back in ‘95 I started handpainting graffiti style concepts in my hairstyles and styled it with the colors of my clothes to create my own style and identity. Colors have emotions and bring character, so representing my style became a bold voice. And I enjoyed shocking people 😎.
It was fun to talk about my career and showcase the trendsetting hairstyles that I’ve been creating for more than three decades.🎨👨🏽‍🎨

It’s was fun and exciting to be back after more than a decade in the show element of talking or performing hairstyles.

A bird can’t fly in a cage.
I custom painted a @calvinklein leather jacket, because the silhouette and soft type of leather inspired me to add some character to it.

The message reflected the personality of an artist and he added it to his private collection, last Friday I decided to paint it on a wall. 🎨

The inspiration came from the writer Bukowski.

Just started a fun and exiting chapter, learning to work with metals like coper, brass, silver, gold and gemstones. It was always a bucket list dream to be able to make my own jewelry as I previously already designed a few unique pieces for friends. So when I showed them what I made, they were..”yes, this makes sense.”

I like details and custom work that tell stories, so it kinda made sense to go for it.

As my teachers always say “start simple”, well this is my type of simple work. This is a 1st attempt with a silver-ring, that’s written in my own font and I still see a lot of details that need to be worked on. Recently made a few grillz..so if you catch me smiling, I might blind ya..

The Queen Mother ✨ Part 1

In African musicology and spiritual traditions, the connection between mothers, drums, and the soul is literal:
* In West African traditions (such as the Akan and Fante peoples of Ghana), the lead festival drums are often carved in the shape of female figures or dedicated to the Queen Mother. These drums are considered the physical vessels carrying the “soul” and voice of the community.

* Many cultural ensembles teach that the very first drum rhythm a human ever hears is their mother’s heartbeat in the womb. Because of this, traditional drums like the Djembe are structurally and spiritually referred to as a portal to “Mother Africa” and the ancestral soul.

I’m mostly inspired by history, ancient cultures and traditions when I create art. It’s important to know where you are from, to understand the bloodline that flows through your vessel.

This artwork is inspired by the females of West African Villages, it represents their social status and age: The patterns, colors, and number of beads indicated whether a woman was single, married, of royal blood, or in mourning.

• Spiritual protection: Many tribes believed that beads (and cowrie shells in particular) possessed talismanic powers. They offered protection against evil and brought good fortune or fertility.

• Identity and tribal affiliation: It served as an immediate marker of identity. Without a word being spoken, an outsider could tell from the bead pattern which village or clan a person came from.

The piano symbolizes the tones and musical elements that they use to communicate in their spiritual rituals. The language of the universe.

And the clouds resemble the style of japanese clouds, to remind us of the asiatic ancestors that connected African (Americans) to the peoples of Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa, when can see the genes in their facial features.

Participants from the Challenge Master visited @straatmuseum. After an inspiring artist talk about my career as a multi disciplinary artist, that worked with international artists, collaborated with industrial companies and fashion brands. I grew up in their neighborhood in Amsterdam South East aka The Bijlmer, I had a vision and a plan.

I took them on an educational tour and after that they went hands-on and expressed themselves through graffiti. Thank you @ajaxfoundation for the opportunity and the participants for their time and effort. We had a lot of creative fun.

The Surinam people that walked by were happily surprised to see the Surinam flag finally being used in Street Art and Graffiti, so I told them that it was time to represent. 🇸🇷
