Fred departed for Chile. This is what he’s packing.

Our first time ski touring south of the equator. Three volcanoes, spring conditions, four days out.

Avalanche terrain isn’t off limits. Avoiding it altogether would mean avoiding parts of the mountains we are here for.

It is not about staying out of it. It’s knowing when, where, and how much exposure is acceptable. And adjusting that call constantly, not just once.

Forecasts checked daily. Snow, wind, temperature read constantly and not assumed. Other guides consulted. Terrain chosen or avoided based on what is actually in front of us, not what the plan was this morning.

CHILE 🇨🇱

In September this year, a long time dream will come true: going back to Chile, to explore the possibilities for future ski trips.

For this first time, we'll head to the volcanoes of central Chile, starting from Temuco.
Nothing wrong about riding some classics, and a couple less classics.

Still shocked where this mountain pursuit has taken me. Not a day goes by that I’m not grateful to see these remote places and walk gently among giants. I always think while on these trips how lucky my feet and eyes are for being able to see all the things I’ve seen and walk to all the places I have. From seaweed to summits, guiding for the first time in this rugged Arctic place, Nusvag Norway. Privileged to work alongside side the legendary splitboard guide @fred_buttard

Amazing week discovering that infact every weather pattern does exist, that group dynamics are the glue, that anything is accessible just off the road or off a boat, that you get to enjoy the sunset for 7 magical hours not just 15 mins, and that people and landscape really make this place special!
