Haven’t posted anything for a while so here we go! We are waiting for our next appointment with the dermatologist which is in two weeks. Freddie’s been on elimination diet for like 5months now so I’m desperate for new solutions we could try to ease his symptoms. At this point I’m pretty sure he’s atopic and not (food) allergic because some of the symptoms actually got worse during the fall which is typical to atopic dogs.🥕

The most problematic symptoms are shedding and paw inflammations (furunculosis). I guess it’s reasonable to say I feel frustrated for vacuuming 4 times a day when we specifically picked a non-shedding breed (I know all dogs shed more or less during different periods and I’m not talking about that) - I mean I’m actually amazed he still has hair in the first place.😩 But yeah I guess I’m still hoping to find a way to reduce the shedding.

Few things I’ve now already taken into our everyday routines to cope with these issues: I wipe his paws (including toes!) at least once a day with a wet cloth to get rid of most spores(?). I know washing would be more efficient but he absolutely hates it and I have no energy and will to fight with him every day.😁❤️ After that I dry his paws all around with a toilet paper or towel. Paper is better because it leaves the skin really dry on the surface.

If I notice any small inflammated spots between his toes I put cortisone (Cortavance) spray in there. It usually keeps his paws quite healthy but because of the atopic condition he still often pulls his nails and licks his paws. Sometimes I even wonder if there is somehing else that bothers him or makes him feel pain which appears to me as atopic symptoms. Such a shame he can’t talk.❤️

PS. I tried Atop 7 spot-on for Freddie and it really helped him to restore his shiny fur and reduced itching! I heard some recommendations about it and so far I could recommend it for other atopic dogs as well!🐾 by @freddiethepinscher

Plenty of you have challenged to share something about the hoomum behind this account and I have forgotten to answer those! Well it just happens that I took the most cute selfie of us so why not tell a little about myself too!

1. I’m studying communication and interaction at university and I wish to be a researcher in my field some day alongside other work🤓

2. I’m passionate about dancing and I’ve participated in national streetdance competitions years ago. Nowadays I just take classes and teach sometimes.

3. We have had 3 giant schnauzers in my family before I took Freddie as my first own dog. I still think giant schnauzers are the best!🐶

4. I love cooking and everyone always say they enjoy my food but I’m terrible at baking and even the simplest cake is a horror to me. 🤣

5. I’ve travelled quite a lot and I prefer adventorous and cultural vacations over pool relaxation and sunbathing🌴

This account is all about honest talk about owning a dog and having german pinscher as a breed and that’s why I’ve shared so much detailed information about the downsides as well. Which brings me to talk about Freddies skin condition and possible allergies today.

We started elimination diet 6-7 weeks ago because Freddie had severe symptoms: itching skin, hair loss and possible furunculosis. The diet started very well, most of the symptoms vanished after two weeks of diet and medication and I was hopeful for good results. Only thing that didn’t fully disappear was biting his nails and paws(?). Although the paws seemed healthy and cured as well, he kept licking and chewing them now and then.

Unfortunately about two weeks ago Freddie suddenly had some of the symptoms coming back. I don’t know what caused it but when he came home from the dog daycare after 4 days he was losing a lot of hair and at first I thought it was just because he was stressed about the change of environment. The hair loss is still going on and he’s also got some red spots between his toes again and itchy ears.😔

I really wish it was only a specific allergy but at this point I’m afraid the symptoms are referring to atopic condition and I’m really devastated if that’s the case. 😔 Luckily we’ll be seeing dog dermatologist in a week so I’m hopeful to find answers to my questions.

Pitkästä aikaa kuulumisia! Meidän perhe täydentyi kesäkuussa pienokaisella👶🏻. Freddie on ottanut hänet tosi hyvin vastaan, yllättävää kyllä, ei vaikuta edes mustasukkaiselta. Freddie antaa tosi paljon tilaa minulle ja vauvalle, ei oikeastaan yritä edes tulla nuolemaan vauvaa tai hääräämään sen lähelle. Jos vauva itkee, niin sitten ravaa meidän ja vauvan väliä varmistaen, että itku on huomattu🥹❤️ Postinjakajat haukutaan myös suuremmalla intensiteetillä pois kotiovelta😂

Muutaman kuukauden ajan Freddie on nuollut vasemman takatassun varpaanväliä. Välillä siihen tulee hotspot mutta vaikka sen saisi hoidettua kuntoon niin nuoleminen saattaa jatkua. Olen alkanut miettimään voisiko siihen jalkaan kohdistua jotain kipua, koska kyseessä on aina sama kohta.🤔 Toisaalta välillä tuntuu että tekee sitä vain rauhoitellakseen itseään ja ”levy jää päälle”. Vaikea tietää, koska myös kutinan kanssa on edelleen haasteita - nyt ei ollakkaan käyty n. vuoteen kontrollikäynnillä atopiaan liittyen, mutta olisi ehkä aiheellista käydä. Furunkkelit ovat luojan kiitos pysyneet poissa (kiitos raakaruoan), mutta tuo tassujen nuoleminen ja korvien rapsuttelu vielä vaivaavat.

No, onneksi mitään vakavampia oireita eikä ongelmia ole ilmennyt. Muutenkin 3,5 vuotias pinseri on aika paljon rauhallisempi tapaus verrattuna pentuikään.😊 Freddiessä kaikkein ylpein olen sen kiltistä luonteesta. Vaikka se on joissakin asioissa hieman neuroottinen ja atopia tuo arkeen omat haasteensa, niin kaikista paras ja itselle tärkein ominaisuus on kuitenkin tuo kiltteys ihmisiä ja koiria kohtaan.❤️

Anoppila on yksi Freddien lempipaikkoja koko maailmassa. Sen tietää siitä että jo motarilta rampille kääntyessä alkaa innokas kiljuhuutokonsertti ja lähdöt ovat nykyään tällaisia että kuikuillaan nurkan takaa eikä meinata tulla omistajien mukaan ennen kuin lopulta pitää tulla kannetuksi autoon🤣🤣 by @freddiethepinscher

Kesäkoira❤️
Oon ollut ihan tolkuttoman kiireinen eikä aikaa tämän tilin päivittämiselle ole juurikaan ollut. Nyt ollaan testattu 100% raakaruokintaa n. puoli vuotta ja se on ollut mielestäni hyvä päätös vaikkei ihan täydellistä matchia ole vielä löytynyt. Haluaisin jakaa yhden merkittävän muutoksen, jonka raakaruokinta on tuonut mukanaan.

Freddiellä oli ennen tosi paljon tassujen kanssa ongelmia ja niiden hoito vei melko suuren aikasiivun jokaisesta päivästä. Joka lenkin jälkeen tassujen pesu, huolellinen kuivaus, päälle vauvatalkkia jne. Furunkkeleita oli välillä melkein jokaisessa tassussa ja niitä hoidettiin kuivaamalla ja rasvaamalla, olivat tosi kipeitä ja inhottavia koiralle.😣

Raakaruokinnan aloitettua tassut ovat pysyneet täysin terveinä mikä on mielestäni suuri ihme. Furunkuloosi kun on yleensä geneettinen taipumus ja melko vaikeastikin hoidettava vaiva. Edes nyt kevättalvella kun lenkit tehtiin muutaman sentin kuravesissä ei sekään aiheuttanut tassuille reaktioita. Eli jotain hyvää ja positiivista on tämä kokeilu tuonut mukanaan!🙏🏾
