Some people looked at Freddy and saw a problem.

A deaf puppy, abandoned on a busy street because he couldn’t hear.

I look at him and see my best friend.

Every day I get to wake up to this view, and every day he reminds me that being different doesn’t make you any less deserving of love. ❤️

If you’re thinking about adopting a dog, please don’t overlook those with disabilities. Deaf dogs can live incredible, happy, fulfilling lives with a little patience, understanding and love.

Freddy, you were always worth coming back for. 🐾

Meet Freddy. 🐾

Freddy is a two-year-old Thai Ridgeback rescued through @soidogfoundation

He’s completely deaf, has what everyone calls a split nose, and one of the biggest personalities I’ve ever known.

Life hasn’t always been easy for him, and we’re still figuring things out together. Some days are amazing, some days are challenging, but every day he’s teaching me something new.

This is the account where I’ll share our journey. No filters, just life with one very special rescue dog.

Welcome, Freddy. ❤️

One day, I went to a shelter and met a dog called Fakfah.

I can’t really explain what happened next. There wasn’t a dramatic moment or a sign from the universe. There was just something about him that stayed with me long after I left.

Everyone tells you to think carefully before adopting a rescue dog, and they are absolutely right. But sometimes, despite all the practical questions and all the reasons to be sensible, your heart quietly makes a decision before your head has a chance to catch up.

So I went back. I brought him home. And I called him Freddy.

Not long after he came home, I discovered that Freddy was completely deaf. Looking back, I can’t help but think how much harder that must have made life for him in a busy shelter environment. And yet, despite everything, there was still something so special about him that I couldn’t walk away.

Since then, we’ve been learning each other, one day at a time. Building trust. Finding our rhythm. Discovering that some of the most important relationships in life aren’t the easiest ones, but the ones you choose to grow through together.

Looking back now, I don’t think I rescued Freddy.

I think we simply found each other at exactly the right moment.

And every day, I’m a little more certain that he was always meant to be my dog, and I was always meant to be his person. ❤️

I’ll always be grateful to @soidogfoundation for introducing me. ❤️

If you’re thinking about adding a dog or cat to your family, please consider adopting and reaching out to Soi Dog Foundation. There are so many incredible animals waiting for someone to choose them.

Sometimes the smallest moments mean the most. 🥹❤️

Freddy spent the first two years of his life waiting for someone to choose him. Born deaf, abandoned on the streets and eventually finding safety at @soidogfoundation, his journey to finding a forever home wasn’t the easiest.

Now, watching him lying peacefully on the sofa, enjoying being stroked without a care in the world, I can’t help but think about how far he’s come.

He might never understand what adoption means, or just how much his life has changed. But I hope he feels it in every gentle touch, every cosy nap and every little moment of our life together.

He’ll never hear me say “I love you”, but I’ll spend every day making sure he knows. ❤️

Thank you, @soidogfoundation, for giving Freddy and so many other deserving dogs a second chance. 🐾

Adopt. Don’t shop. Every rescue deserves a happy ending.

Just popping up on your feed to show off Freddy’s very special nose. 🐽🥹

It’s called a bifid nose (or split nose), and it makes him a little bit different from most dogs. But we think it just adds to his charm. 😌❤️

Anyway, that’s all. Just thought you should know.

Okay, enjoy your day. 👋😂

Have you ever seen a dog with a nose like Freddy’s? 👀👇

Same Freddy. Six very different opinions. 😂🐕 by @freddy.thai.ridgeback

I never went looking for a dog.

I’d started spending some of my spare time volunteering at the shelter, walking dogs and helping where I could. Adopting wasn’t even on my radar.

And then I met Freddy. 🤎

There was just something about him. His big, soulful eyes, his goofy, slightly odd personality… I couldn’t explain it, but I felt drawn to him almost immediately.

Around the same time, my dad’s health suddenly started to deteriorate. I decided to name Freddy after my dad’s middle name, Frederick. And as everything with Dad became harder, somehow I found myself feeling even more connected to this little dog I’d found.

Then came a month-long wait for Freddy’s test results before I knew for certain that I could adopt him.

And finally, the day in this video arrived.

I was so excited I felt sick. But underneath all that excitement were so many nerves. Freddy had spent 18 months at the shelter. It was the life he knew. Would he want to leave with me? Would he be scared? Would he miss the other dogs? Would he be happy with us?

And there was one very big thing none of us knew yet…

Freddy was completely deaf.

He had spent his whole life navigating a world he couldn’t hear, and suddenly so much about this goofy, misunderstood little dog started to make sense.

Sadly, not long after Freddy came home, my dad passed away. They never got the chance to meet, and I really wish they had.

But I love knowing that Freddy will always carry a little piece of his name with him. 🤎

It’s been almost four months since we brought Freddy home. Four months of learning how to communicate with each other, building trust, discovering more and more of his ridiculous personality, facing some unexpected challenges, and completely falling in love with him.

Watching this footage back now feels almost surreal.

I was so worried that day about whether Freddy would be happy with us.

Almost four months later, I think we have our answer. 🤎

We love you, Freddy. 🐾

He thought getting adopted meant a comfy home, good food and nice walks.

Nobody warned him about the relentless affection. 😂

Sorry Fred, personal space was not included in the adoption package. 🤷🏼‍♀️🐕❤️

No responsibilities. No bills. Just a big rope and an unreasonable amount of pride in owning it. 😂🤎

Apparently Dad leaving the house for a few hours is Freddy’s greatest hardship in life 🥺😂

Anyone else’s dog act like you’ve been gone for 6 months when it’s actually been a few hours? 😂🐾

You can touch the emotional support pillow. You just can’t have the emotional support pillow. 😂

Apparently those are the rules.

Anyone else’s dog have something they simply refuse to let go of? 🥹🐾
