Nous racontons ici l’histoire de matières que l’on croyait arrivées au terme de leur parcours et qui deviennent le point de départ de nouveaux objets. Celle de meubles qui reviennent dans les ateliers de ceux qui les ont fabriqués pour être restaurés, démontés ou remis en circulation. Celle de bâtiments qui changent de destination sans effacer ce qu’ils furent. . LATITUDE Sun lounger for @kettler_homegarden _______________________________ Interview by Alexandra Maschewsski from @moebelkultur AM What inspired you to create “Latitude”? FS I'm very interested in branding and brands. It's about the identity of a brand, the identity of a design. So the idea is to create a kind of consistency between the products and the brand. Kettler is a German company with a German identity, very popular and with a long history. I thought about what we could take from the historical heritage of German design and transform it. First of all, there is the Bauhaus as a basis. Then there is Giorgetto Giugiaro, who left his mark on the entire identity of Volkswagen in the 1980s with his “Wedge Design” and the Golf 1. The creations of Dieter Rams, who embodies functionality and a kind of humanistic functionalism, also played an important role. AM How do these influences manifest themselves? FS All the shapes are quite radical. There is a lot of geometry, a lot of edges whose contours are further reinforced by a small rib. I wanted to design furniture that was easy to use and sturdy. No need for long explanations. A chair looks like a chair. And since people often complain about metal outdoor furniture because it can be cold and hard, I thought from the outset about how cushions could be integrated into the design without looking like “accessories.” So there is a removable cushioning system for the seats, which was integrated into the design from the outset.
