When you are a solo hunter and the sun is going down, getting a quality photo is a coin toss at best.
I am, however, fortunate to have punched what is hopefully the first of a good handful of Montana tags this fall.

The feeling of being in the woods alone, just you and the elements, really brings an outdoorsmans true senses alive and the grind a good pack out is always rewarding.
I am thankful for another harvest.

Now it is on to California.
Time for Tule......... elk that is. 🏹

Sure had a great time this past weekend competing in the Montana State Sporting Clays Championship.
I am humbled and honored to have shot well enough to be the 2026 MONTANA STATE CHAMPION with a Main Event score of 182/200.
I was also fortunate enough to win High Overall honors in the FITASC event with a score of 91/100 after winning the final shootoff. Congratulations also goes to @brianelia for his HOA win in the main event.

I wish to congratulate Mike Bergman and his fine staff @bluecreeksportshooting for a great four day event.
With scorching temperatures reaching over 105° on Saturday, it was mighty hot, but the food was good and the beer was cold.
I sure had a blast shooting with long-term friends and a few new ones. We laughed a lot and built each other up when we needed it most.

Thanks again to all involved, including fine folks of the Montana Sporting Clays Association.

Since moving full-time to Montana five years ago, this title has been an ultimate goal of mine and I feel blessed to be on the long list of fine clay target shooters to take the top step.
I big shoutout to @maria_fanizzi_ and @clay_shooting_joe and a whole host of friends who have supported my ongoing journey of improvement.

All the glory to God for allowing me to shine for Him. 🙏🤝

The CALGARY STAMPEDE certainly lived up to all of the hype. The greatest outdoor show on earth beginning in 1912 was full of awesome entertainment and fun.
For Maria and I the highlight was getting to hang out with college pals and life long friends from nearly fourty years ago.
If you've never been to the "Pede" I highly recommend it.

Sure had a great time in the high country of Montana last week with my longtime buddy Alex Johns @cowaggie and super guide Marc Evans @marc.evans.33 of @northernrockiesoutfitters.

At the end of four long days of hiking, long sessions of glassing and fairly hot weather, we made a final climb and long stalk to put Alex into position to make a great 320 yard shot on a beautiful color phase cinnamon black bear.
The bear ended up squaring just over 6 feet and was in extremely great shape.

A most memorable heavy pack out, including late night darkness, lightning, thunder and rain added to the adventure.
To cap things off, Alex landed his very first Montana trout on the last day.
None other than a coveted 20 inch brown on top.
What a week indeed.

Many thanks to Rich Birdsell @northernrockiesoutfitters and the Florida Cattlemens Assn. @flcattlemen for putting this most memorable experience together.

There sure is a tremendous amount of love, hard work, early mornings, late nights, endless phone calls and texts, loyalty, dedication and overall selflessness to family represented in the photos of this incredible human I am lucky enough to call my wife.

Wishing Maria and all the great moms out there a very HAPPY MOTHERS DAY !

Had a great time last week chasing those white tipped mountain Merriams gobblers in eastern Montana with awesome buds from Mississippi.
We put on some miles and sure laughed a lot.
It's amazing the people you meet in this life all based on our common passion and love of chassing Americas greatest game bird.
I am blessed to know these guys and share our passion. 🙏🦃
