Workshopping new music on @earthmodularsociety. Ferachrome Sleep is an intense composition I am very proud of. The Warp Core really shows its depth paired with the Ikarie. They produce very emotional tones for me. Of course, I’ve picked up some chops on the Brain Step. Getting there.

Inspired by the publication of The Butcher and the Liar by @slwoeppelbooks, this eponymous track is for thinking about secrets.

I put together a new drum rack. I typically sequence rhythm on a drum machine, but in conversation with a few modular drum GOATS (@dysonant and @metamyther), I decided to shake some spice in there. It sounds awesome.

It has been an incredibly busy late summer and autumn, so I want to pause and say thanks to the Greater Columbus Arts Council (@gcac_cbus) for awarding me an artists grant. Your support has meant the world to me. You serve such a vital role of recognition and care at a time when art seems to be threatened on several fronts. Over the next few months I will be up to all sorts music making and performances. Columbus’ artist community is extraordinary. Thank you GCAC for amplifying our work.

I will be playing at @honestfriendbrewing on Friday November 6th. Music start at 7pm sharp.

Also, check it out! This is the first video with my new drum rack!!! Gaaaaawawawa!!!!! The @emilyharpist and @oldbloodnoise collaboration pedal Parting sounds exquisite with the SP-404 mk II.

As always the @itsalljuststatic family assembled to honor one of our most sacred rituals, Terror Visions, expertly MCed by @aimee.lee2840 at @cafebourbonstreet. Live scored horror. What to say other than that Fatal Gaze (@videoshave, @__david_reed__) and @matthew_j_ gave us an extraordinary glimpse into the potential of this pairing. Wooooeeee. There will be more of this. My show with @dvvidw was so fun. Thanks for the kind words about the set, dvvid was super generous and i really enjoyed playing with him for that room in particular. @nicksnekman led a controlled breathing and free play vocalization troop that was very unsettling. Their commitment was an impressive feat to experience. @kevin_p_holland and @troykunkler are two of the most skilled musicians of their instrument i have ever seen live. Their presence was a demonstration of greatness. And last but never least, @moebiusreon and @drewsherrick, along with two other strings players, layered the frequencies in a striking and way, perfect for the queen xenomorph herself.

Rad stuff friends.

So much post ‘85 vinyl. What has gotten into me? Hot deals and fate, I tell you. Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined (2012 RI, Human Highway) by @monoofjapan is beautiful. I know describing Mono as merely a post rock band, even one of the greats, is reductive. They orchestrate. I will say this album name is the most post rock title ever (love it). Eat Pray Thug (2015, Megaforce/ Greenhead) by Heems @nehrujackets sends me back home to New York. In the mid-late aughts, at the height of independent music blogs, I wrote reviews. Like everyone else, I was sent Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell by indie rap trio Das Racist, which regardless of your thoughts on the track, it really captured the zeitgeist in NYC at the time. I blasted it in my Bushwick art studio apartment. Fast forward, I was recently crate digging the new arrivals at @used_kids_records in Columbus, Ohio and I spied a copy of this album. Fated. Side note: super smart record. Lucifer (2012, Mexican Summer) by @peakinglights is such a wonderfully weird album of psychedelic synth dub tracks. I took a chance on it because the cover reminded me of a cross between a La Düsseldorf and a Cluster album (do you know which ones?). It’s not sonically in that vein, but rad nonetheless. Neptune (2016, Domino) by @higherauthorities is also so weird and fun with synthesis and vocal layers, electric piano and a drum machine. This is ideal. This record def has some Nue!/Velvet adjacency.

It was an honor to support @old.pup at @dirtydungareeslaundromat. His work is contemplative, humble, and unassumingly skilled. That picking hand was like a sewing machine and his slide hand hit all my soft spots. I wish him well on his journey. If you see his name on a flyer, it goes on your itinerary. Sidebar: Old Pup’s mug in these videos reminds me of the cover of Tom Powers’, 1977 album Love and Learn. Just sayin.’

Of course, you know Phase Transmissions already because you know what’s good. Pure creative expression. That’s why I go to them whenever I can. I always walk away ready to go further than when I walked in.

I had a wonderful day with my modular friends at Goodale park last week. The backdrop of the park allows a sort of softness to be more meaningful and moving. Come to October’s MOTS, it may be the last of the year.
