Met another one of my heroes today! I haven't had this much respect for a member of the @cbcfinc @cbcpac Congressional Black Congress since Rep. John Conyers (RIP) became the catalyst for @weactradiodc

I came in 2nd place in my first campaign. This is a small victory. I defeated a Republican the Nite Trump dominated + i defeated a former at-large council member w/ a handful of volunteers + $9k. Once EHN is out the way, I got this. This is her last term. I will be the 3rd DC Delegate.

The election cycle isn’t over yet. A majority of eligible voters didn’t vote in the primary, noted Freeman. According to the DC Board of Elections, 32% of District voters participated in the primary and special elections held on June 16. In other words, nearly 70% did not cast a ballot.

That doesn’t even account for the fact that none of DC’s 77,000 independents could vote for congressional delegate in the primary. They will choose a candidate for the first time on Nov. 3.

Freeman said his strategy to win is to mobilize a large portion of those people who didn’t vote and to leverage ranked choice voting. “I’m not a Republican. I’m not a Democrat. I am DC,” declared Freeman in our discussion, during which he raised concerns about a litany of socioeconomic issues like chronic poverty in certain communities and the government’s failure to completely remediate lead pipes in the city. The new home for the @commanders is expected to be ready in 2030 while @dc.water won’t finish removing lead pipes until 2037. 💧

The good Rev Brian Hamilton has been at the helm of one of my top 5 churches in the nation's capital for 30 years! Westminister Presbyterian Church @pcusa aka as the #jazzchurch

His approach to religion, worship & the ministry of jazz & the blues has been nothing short of revolutionary. He deconstructed the pulpit & transformed the sanctuary into a concert auditorium. Today he steps down as pastor of an institution he helped to build & I had to to be there to honor him & take a knee before this great man. The 10th anniversary of @nmaahc Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture #purpleball was beautiful but sonically a bit disappointing. We 💜 Lonnie for making it real w/ story of the Pearl & reminding us all that slaves were brought in @thewharfdc. @billbellamy did a great job hosting & @dnice was kool & especially the opening band @renaissanceorchestra_ BUT JERMAINE DUPRI WAS OUT OF PLACE! He must've been a big donor or something because hearing him spin only his music & bringing his artists out didn't feel like a tribute befitting the #NMAAHC during these perilous times. #aboutlastnight taken in The Anthem by @freeman4dc
