Lakeforest Mall is now completely demolished 😱The $1.2 billion redevelopment of the former Lakeforest Mall site in Gaithersburg, MD, is a massive, multi-year undertaking. The initial phase is expected to open in 2028, with subsequent phases rolling out through 2030. Lakeforest Redevelopment Project Update 🚧 as of today, Friday, May 8th, 2026. Lakeforest Mall is now fully being demolished 🚧 what’re some memories you had at this mall?? 👇The approximately 100-acre Lakeforest Mall site is owned and being redeveloped by WRS Inc. Real Estate Investments, who are transforming the property from a vacant indoor mall into a massive, walkable mixed-use district. Exterior demolition of the 1-million-square-foot structure officially began on April 1, 2026, paving the way for extensive underground utility work before vertical construction can commence. Once fully built out, the sprawling development will feature up to 1,600 residential units, 750,000 square feet of employment space, and extensive retail and dining options.
