✍A visual poem written by me (@freiha) for @womena
📽 Filmed in #Beirut in November with @fouad3on
🎞Edited by @zeinabeltawil
🎤 With sound production by @mrkream

❤️🇱🇧 Eventhough this was filmed over 9 Months ago, the message still stands today as much as it did then. Yesterday was a victory for the Lebanese people, the broken streets of beautiful Beirut were flooded with the masses, all unified, all bringing the energy of change with them despite their city and hearts being recently bulldozed by the #BeirutBlast. 4 Major sites were taken over by the Revolution (Ministry of Economy and Trade, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and HQ of Association of Banks) with the the Ministry of Foreign Affairs now standing as the "Headquarters of the Revolution". 🏰 We needed this. This small win. I call it a small win despite the massive feeling of victory that it filled us with last night because we still have a LONG and very difficult battle ahead of us. Those in power will not give up easily. They would prefer to literally obliterate the population and rule over rubble than resign. They have weapons we don't, and they have proven themselves are heartless enough to use those weapons against their people; their unarmed, homeless, hungry, thirsty, poor, tired, resilient people. But those people that they have tried and tried to ruin are stronger than ever now, fuelled by the fight and the fearlessness of nothing left to lose. So the fight continues, and so will the rage...but there is some light right now at the end of the tunnel 🔥✊🏼✊🏻✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾✊🏼✊🏻✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾🇱🇧

“I can’t be a pessimist...because I’m alive. To be a pessimist means that you’ve agreed that Human Life is an academic matter. So I am forced to be an optimist. I am forced to believe that we must survive whatever we must survive.” - James Baldwin, Author and Civil Rights legend

🌈✌🏽❤️ You ask me why I’m an optimist; Why I fight for people’s rights, why I believe we CAN overcome evil and we can persevere, Why I fight for change in this world. It’s because if I don’t I will die. If I accept the status quo I will literally deny life and living. I must at my very core believe that change for the better is possible. This is the only way to survive, and the only way to thrive in a world of whatthefuhkery... taken in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by @freiha
